Will Mitchell stay eligible?

The Tennessee case had a TRO. The NCAA's appeal for a Stay was denied nearly two weeks ago. Today the court ruled a Stay. Now all those athletes revert back to being ineligible.

That's why Mitchell's case is completely up in the air. All it takes is one judge to grant a Stay and everyone in the Kentucky case is ineligible again. That's what the NCAA's plan is. Drag this out as long as possible and make players miss as many games as possible.

This will affect FB way more than BB. BB has months for this to be decided, FB doesn’t. Since FB is the cash cow, that’s why all this is happening. IMO, of course.

Don’t think he should be allowed to play because of what reason exactly?! Because the kid THOUGHT he was out of eligibility?! I mean, why in the world would he pull out of the draft, thinking he was out of college eligibility?! There was literally zero reason for him to pull out of the draft. Lmfao
Check the dates on when Mitchell was participating in summer league and when the 5 year ruling was announced. He didn't declare or pull out of the draft. He was a senior with, assumed, no eligibility left. That is my understanding. Also, why did he participate in the NBA summer league? ( He was trying to catch on with s team). I think he is a real good player but, I hope all players in this position are ruled ineligible.. I am just gradually losing my love of college basketball in general right now, especially UK Basketball. It has been chaos for a couple of years and I have zero confidence in the man in charge of the team. I have been a die hard fan my entire life but goofy stuff like the current ******** with Mitchell goes against reason. Hate all you want cowtown. Don't care.

Oh football players are super screwed.

But if the NCAA has its way, they will drag this out a long time and a lot of basketball games will be missed by players who may ultimately be ruled eligible.

And that's the messed up part. I expect most of these guys will win in court in the long run. But this crap could take a long time to settle in court.

Do redshirts still exist in the new 5-for-5? Could a guy like Mitchell ultimately win his eligibility in like March, and just decide he'd rather play a full season in '27-'28 as opposed to a handful of games at the end of this year?

For sure. And no, no RS or medical waivers anymore.

and on the last part, I doubt it. The age rule would take him out of the equation I believe

Sounds like public opinion may now be shifting a bit... with this new Stay granted for NCAA in TN. Will Mitchell remain eligible? Looks more dim now

That's not even the new one. The Stay in Tennessee is the new new one.

I think Mitchell and most other cases will win in the end. But the damn season might be over before they do.

It’s big **** show at the moment. Nobody to blame but the NCAA. They could have avoided this easily.

I’m starting to wonder if the stays really mean that much? Like stay are just temporary and I really can’t see why the courts would give the NCAA a sweat heart deal

A Stay just means the rules remain in place until the next court decision. Which means the NCAA can punish a school/player if the rules are broken. Even if the player ultimately wins in the end, you can't play him during any period while a Stay is in effect.

But with so many levels of the court system, the NCAA is going to keep appealing every loss and dragging this out. Basically every team should prepare for a season without their 5th year players, and then just be happy if they get to participate in any games. Which is a messed up way to approach a season as a fan. Not to mention, chemistry matters. I remember Kyrie Irving returning from injury late in a season and wrecking dook's chemistry for the tournament. There's no telling how adding a big time guy late in the year, after winning a court battle, will alter a team's chemistry.

The NCAA really is the worst.

The stay in Tennessee was at the federal level, Mitchell's case was State level. The Federal cases have been moved up on the docket, and cases can be ruled on quicker than the State level. If the NCAA has a chance of being awarded a stay in Jefferson County, it would be more likely half way through the season, because of timing of hearings at that level. Which could be worse if Mitchell gets pulled in the middle of the season.

With the 5 for 5 no one will take a redshirt. Your 5 year clock is running whether you are playing or not.

If Mitchell signed any contracts, he’s done he’s not gonna play this year. His sounds like his case is different than most because it’s not very straightforward.. It’s not just a five for five issue.. He has to beat that and he has to beat the pro eligibility issue.. I think it’s gonna be difficult and I think it’s gonna be a situation where if we plan the NCAA will vacate wins

So if Mitchell gets through these 3 requirements then what happens with the non transfer stuff within the conference? At that point is it basically null and void or is that another hurdle?

The NCAA is trying to stay relevant and they are winning in court. For now. The question at this point is WHAT schools will buck the system, sue the NCAA, and then hope for a win. The question that UK has to consider is the juice worth the squeeze.

This is barely a win. It is delaying the inevitable

IMO Mitchell has a lot to do with the SEC taking this stand. I told all my friends if the Louisville court case was won, this is one hill they will die on.
SEC basketball has been completely revived with UK losing 10 games a season. I think that’s Sankeys plan. Our terrible whistle , problems getting guys eligible ( Big Z, and our foreign guy last year. Mitches cozy relationship with Sankey. All designed to hold UK down as much as possible. When UK ruled the conference in basketball. There were 100 people at a Tuesday night game against Georgia and Ole Miss. Football schools don’t and won’t care about basketball if they are not winning. Shoot, Florida is winning and their fans don’t care, won’t travel or spend money. Saving it all for football.
I don't think Sankey, or anyone in the SEC office cares if we go undefeated or winless. Why would Sankey care what we do win/loss record. If we go undefeated or if Mississippi State goes undefeated, no one besides our fans or Miss St fans would give a shvt! I would love to have Mitchell suit up for us this year but that will not happen because the penalty not to Mitchell but to UK AD budget and 50% suspension of coach Pope. In all honesty, if we did not have someone like Mitchell we would be screaming if a Mitchell like player was about to enroll at TN, TX, or FL. Our fan base would be screaming if it were Duke or Louisville

This is all Mark Pope’s fault. He had to know that by offering a player like Mitchell, who didn’t enter the transfer portal was gonna cause a problem. He had to know that, but he went about it anyway and now he’s got the SEC commissioner on our a**

He didn't enter at the time because he was deemed ineligible so why would he have? The SEC rule should have no weight behind it when looked at logically, which a judge will do and rule in our favor. This is elementary level stuff

I doubt Pope believed the UK President would side with the SEC in this matter. He probably thought the school would have his and Mitchell's back.

But Mark Mitchell could have hired a real agent instead of his brother years ago. A real agent would have advised him to put his name in the portal last spring to cover his bases, like so many agents have advised seniors to do the past few years. I get what Mark wanted to do. Help his brother start a business, and simultaneously keep the agent fee he would be paying out in the family. But not having a competent agent really bit him in the butt this time. You think an agent from CAA would have let April pass without Mark Mitchell's name in the portal??? Not a chance.

Your stupid and probably some troll but Mark Mitchell is the best Player available at this time so if your pope who is already confident of your squad then why not add a guy who takes you to championship material. Screw the SEC yelling at us who cares

I'd like to think Pope has more integrity than that. You have to do the right thing versus scratching each other's backs. If the NCAA had done its job from the get-go and this is going WAY back then none of this crap would have ever happened. And coach Dean's Sausage wouldn't have been able to look past all the cheating.
