If Indiana looses tonight will RU announce its new DC who is coming over from Indiana. Will the db coach announce this weekend or will we have to wait because the beat OU, can't they just announce it anyway to help with the portal recruiting.

If it’s an IU assistant why can’t it be announced. Both Oregon coordinators are coaching while having already gotten HC jobs. You see it all over, not sure the reason for not announcing it.
Ummmm. Beem saying the same thing all along. Everyone else can announce NFL/CFB coaches. But we have to wait to announce ? Doesn’t make sense at all. Cannot be there is a “soft” commitment while pursuing other jobs? Or this is all a grand conspiracy?

I haven’t read any inside info but since some were hinting at it, I was just wondering why it wouldn’t be announced when so many coaching moves get announced while still coaching current teams.

Didn’t it take a couple tries at KC with more money and paying the buyout before he came on board. Maybe more enticement beyond promotion necessary?

Yep I heard 3 separate attempts and multiple bumps in comp. Amazing that lower level teams can attract great candidates but we are held hostage for 3 months every year.

Well I guess we hope the rumor is true ? Clearly will miss the entire Portal with out a defensive staff in place. I am sure Greg is doing a great job 🤣

Greg can’t find anyone worth their salt to Coach under him.
We will have to wait for the leftovers.

That and the fact that the rumored hire not being announced because he’s active in the playoffs makes zero sense. Considering all the coaches that have announced, left or are leaving that are still coaching. If the rumor is true this tells me he’s playing both sides against the middle and still entertaining other offers.

Yeah, I'm to the point where none of this is looking good. The portal closes on Jan. 17th and we have yet to hire a DC and 4 defensive assistants. The portal players we have gotten on D are all being rationalized on how they could work out. Any DC now is going to have to work with what Schiano could scrouge up with no input. Also, where exactly is he going to get his assistants as guys have already taken jobs?

If the guy is already on board and wants to keep it quiet, he has put himself way behind the eight ball. In what was already a fv*ked up situation. He may be good, but putting himself 10 steps behind at the start may be something he'll not be able to overcome.

The value of hiring new assistant coaches from good programs is their ability to bring experienced players with them to make an immediate impact

What value do they have to bring anyone with them if the portal closes prior to the announcement? Portal closes one week from today. Championship game is 2 days after the close. Even if they announce today all of the hires. That’s not enough time. Also limits the d coordinators ability to hire who he wishes.

One tidbit National Championship game participants have an additional portal from Jan. 24 to 25th. Still, I'm sure some kids are being turned off that they don't know who they'd be playing for. The average college coaching search takes 9 days we're at over 40. At this point its incompetence not having a DC if only in name only.

Considering ciarroca took over 90 and Robb(2 b’s) smith took close to 80 we have plenty of waiting time ahead. And the 40 days is debatable because Schiano knew Robb was gone after the Oregon game so candidates should have been in the works for months.

Well, the 9 day stat is from when last game played. He's making the exact same mistake as he did last year dragging this out. I'm sure we're losing kids in the portal because of this.

Well if it is the Indiana db coach as mentioned in the OP it is Ola Adams.
Yep Adams is the name mentioned as a candidate in the recent TKR pods. If he's the guy, some of my faith in GS is restored. If he's not...wouldn't blame anyone who started panicking.

I like the name. But there is zero reason not to announce.

Thank you. I do listen to the podcasts, but I must have missed it if they mentioned his name.
And i'm sure that those who haven't listened to them are wondering what the big secret is.
Sounds like an interesting name.

Totally agree if it’s a done deal, but sounds like it’s not per the pods. Seems extremely risky to wait it out like this with no guarantees, but Adams is at least a name I understand going out on a limb for.

I have no inside info but do assist coach contracts ever come with large incentives for winning a Natty? An announcement of a key departure could be distracting to the mission so maybe if the amount was large enough that would be the push to wait. I agree with others. Unless there’s a big pile of money involved and that coach thinks he’d risk losing out by announcing now, I can’t think of another reason you wouldn’t annnounce.

They’re all pains in the asses.
There's pain in winning and then there's pain in losing. There's pain when a coach is right and makes you look good and misery when they don't let you do your job and ruin your career.
