There's pain in. Winning and then there's pain in losing. There's pain when a coach is right and makes you look good and misery when they font let you do your job and ruin your career.
Yep. Cignetti may have a pained look on the sidelines. But one thing he preaches is efficiency. If it doesn’t lead to wins they don’t do it. He doesn’t want to be a grind. He doesn’t want his coaches or players living at the facilities. His practices are 1:40 live action. The Indiana holdovers were amazed when he came.

Some of you guys make it sound like most head coaches aren't pains in the *** to work under.
Yes, but the vast majority don’t take months to hire Staff.
Hope we have a DC before the Spring game.

What value do they have to bring anyone with them if the portal closes prior to the announcement? Portal closes one week from today. Championship game is 2 days after the close. Even if they announce today all of the hires. That’s not enough time. Also limits the d coordinators ability to hire who he wishes.
I agree with this problem of timing.
Just stating the value of bringing in a new coach.

Well if it is the Indiana db coach as mentioned in the OP it is Ola Adams.
I have heard the DB coach as well, but rumors can spread like wildfire.
The value of hiring new assistant coaches from good programs is their ability to bring experienced players with them to make an immediate impact
Unless your name is Nunzio Campanile. Hire him and it didn't bring anyone of significance from BC that I recall. Hopefully the new DC can bring in some quality players, but it also begs the question: If said quality players are playing in the national championship game, who will want to leave THAT team to follow a DB coach?

Blake Gideon, GT's DC for 2025 left on Jan 3. Eight days later, Tech has a new DC. . . .

Lord Gregory doesn’t waste time pursuing any coaches while there are still other openings, knowing that no one with upward options will work for him. Only when his opening is the only one left will he pick up the phone.

Until then he spends a lot of time practicing his TO signals in front of a mirror like an old West gunslinger, because you never know when you will need to call one on a FG try in 40 mph winds in the rain from 58 yards out. Keep Choppin.

Yea but there is no value and no immediate impact if they can’t bring anyone with them. The portal closes in 4 days. If those names are not in the portal by then they’re not bringing anyone with them.

Hire Zack Kuhr!!!!!

Mr. "Fence the Garden"

Had no idea he caught on in the NFL, much less how well he was doing. Seems that Ash did identify some up and coming coaching talent, but maybe weren’t ready yet for the roles he gave them (most notably Mehringer).

Yes, quite shocking.
And while he did not set the world on fire at Rutgers, Jerry Kill was a refreshing hire after the inexperienced Mehringer. Jerry did well after he left Rutgers, despite his severe health issues. Every dog can have their day!

If Indiana looses tonight will RU announce its new DC who is coming over from Indiana. Will the db coach announce this weekend or will we have to wait because the beat OU, can't they just announce it anyway to help with the portal recruiting.
Maybe change thread title from "this weekend" to "this month" or "this year".

This is what always ticks me off and was the big first warning sign with Ash…he also brought no one and there were obvious 2/3rd on the depth chart guys that would have been immediate play and impact guys. This seems to happen only at Rutgers.

Coaching tree name that would be interesting and a good heir apparent- what about a guy like Darren Rizzi.

Love Darren but I dont think Darren is walking away from the NFL lifestyle anytime soon. Guys is being mentioned as a legitimate option for a couple NFL head gigs.

It does when you're making your way out of the forest vs. Being endlessly lost in it.
It's the most meatheaded thing ever. It suggests you are always behind the eight ball and just need to work harder.

Cignetti is the polar opposite. His teams work smarter. Schiano watched Rocky too many times growing up.

Greg has no direct connection to Zak Kuhr, but as posted above, he has done well as acting DC at New England. He was an intern at Ohio State 2011-12, so maybe Urban Meyer can vouch for him, but that did not go so well when he vouched for Chris Ash.

Hafley is on a lot of NFL teams' short lists for Head Coach. I don't see him coming back to RU.
Grok has been whiffing pretty badly for me lately.
I was trying to track something down. Multiple different prompts, where I fed Grok the info, and Grok kept saying news articles refer to something, yet public records (govt database) clearly indicated opposite. I kept pointing to the database to try to prompt Grok into conceding, but it would not relent. I was 99% sure of the the answer, but was curious how an AI tool would handle the question.

I would put this hire on the same or a more difficult level. Hafley ain't happening.

Please say AI instead of Gronk, when I see gronk I think of

With the Steelers losing and Mike Tomlin likely getting fired, maybe he would consider being Rutgers defensive coordinator? o_O :alien:🤓

I sure hope the RU pres and AD are paying attention. This is a **** show - at least from the outside.

Acknowledging we don’t know what’s happening behind closed doors - if @Richie O and others are correct and there was money to spend beyond roster retention I sure hope Zinn is as baffled as the fan base at what is transpiring…

No D staff.
No significant upgrade in talent - lots of replacement players for graduating/transferring talent.

I’m pretty sure anyone playing in the national championship game gets an extra 5 day portal window which starts on Jan. 20th.

You think players will be leaving that juggernaut to come with the DB coach to Rutgers? I’m sure even if their coordinators left. They wouldn’t be bringing many if any with them.

But if Rutgers can get Tomlin, maybe he could bring Aaron Rodgers and a couple of other Steelers with him--that is a much more realistic option!!! :ROFLMAO:
(for those that did not see or understand emojis, in the words of Al Michael- Peter that was a totally farcical post and suggestion).
