Mike Holmgren would be interesting and worth a look.

He could leave USC in the same shape as Tennessee and never look back. Just kidding. But I think Jim Mora Jr. would be a good fit.It still might be a little early for Harbaugh to be considered for the NFL. Give him a few more years and let him get some big wins under his belt in some bowl games or against some top tier schoolsand someone might go after him. </p>
but he has beaten some people like Oregon last year and I think he beat USC last year as well. He also has shown that he can develop a QB in a NFL style system, and Stanford is not a place like USC where he is going to just get every five star recruit. I think Stanford will win 10 games this year. Also, Harbaugh has a NFL pedigree.
It would be a great situation for the 49ers because they could hire him, and potentially draft Andrew Luck, the local boy from Stanford, and get rid of Alex Smith. Harbaugh and Luck knowing each other would help his transition to the NFL.

Not so demanding for the QB in terms of having to rely on him chunking it all over the place. Use your tight ends and backs in the passing game, and have some big backs who can churn out yards. He throws to his TE's and RB's at Bama all the time, so that's an easy transition there.He has Gore and Dixon as his RB's, and Vernon Davis as his TE,so he doesn't need to worry there. They need some impact OL and another target at WR and they will be fine with a QB like McElroy. They have a decent defense and a good leader in Willis. They seem to have the pieces, but they don't seem to have the guy trying to put them all together.
Maybe he will get the itch to coach again, plus I figure it's only a matter of time before Tennessee begs him to come back after Derek Dooley ultimately fails. Of course, we've been hearing that Gruden was going to Knoxville for how many years now?
Cowher is a good coach, but he's more blue-collar, Pittsburgh Steeler like as opposed to West Coast 49er like. I wouldn't turn him down if I was the 49ers, but it would be a little weird.
