Spurrier's offense, or the Fun 'n Gun, was not a spread offense, or even a variation of the spread. It involved stretching, not spreading, the field. What made the offense so lethal, was there ability to throw deep out of offensive sets that you would consider to be "run sets", like I-Formation, One Back Sets, with tight-ends, etc. The fact that they ran those type formations most often indicates that is was not a spread offense. It was a conventional offense, with really good QB's and receivers that relied alot on timing.
