Will you switch cable/satellite companies if they don't have SEC Network?...

What's your date where you say I am going to start looking at other options?

Mine is July 15. If Comcast hasn't signed on by then, I am calling UVerse.

Im a Dish subscriber, so im very glad they got on board. I would have absolutly switched to a privider carrying the SEC Network. I would have given them till about 30 days to show time.

Edit:
Out of curiosity... Is Dish not an option for you? I had Comcast for years before switching to Dish about 5 years ago. Dish blows Comcast out of the water for me. I don't know anything about UVerse and im not even sure its an option here in Meridian.

Absolutely

Live sports is the biggest reason I still have, and will probably never get rid of, a cable/satellite/uverse service. And college football is an enormous part of my sports viewing.

One thing to keep in mind about uverse is that it requires a working phone line to your house. AT&T is currently over a month behind on private property phone line burial related to uverse in this area -- and their union requires a different tech do the line installation from the house installation. This is mainly happening because, with the advent of unlimited cell phone plans, so many people let their home phone go/never got one, and have since shown no concern for the line that was once buried there.

That said, they should have a temp laid across the ground and the service up and running in 48-72 hours... You just may have to avoid it while cutting grass for 4-6 weeks...

Probably not. Need to see what games they schedule first

Hell they may only show 1 OM game or something. I like my cable company, my 85MBps internet. I'd have to go to TW (who I don't actually hate) or a dish company, and I don't like dish, plus then I'd have to pay for un-bundled internet (much more expensive). Uverse is not an option at my house, and the Dish companies still use DSL, which I will not be using. I can always go to a bar. So if I switch it will be halfway through football or before basketball season. Or I totally change my mind by then.

The question really is, are you willing to risk missing a week or 2 of games to keep your current provider. Because, you're right, there's 0 chance DirectTV, Comcast, Time Warner, Cox won't pick up the SECN. The question is when will they pick it up. It's not uncommon for these things to come right down to the wire and even a week or 2 past it before the 2 sides come to a deal. For me, I still don't have access to U-Verse. I'll probably wait instead of switching from Comcast to Dish. But if U-Verse comes into my neighborhood before Comcast picks up SECN, I'm switching.

It's a pretty safe bet that the Saturday night prime ESPN game will move to the SECN, at least until all the major cable/satellite companies are on board. The SEC & ESPN are going to put as much pressure on them as they can. You're going to see a lot of Bama, LSU, Auburn, Florida, USC, UGA, and A&M on the SECN. MSU and UM are going to mostly be on the current ESPN channels.

Absolutely. Where I live the only options currently are DirecTV and Dish but Uverse is supposed to be available in a couple of months and if DirecTV doesn't have a deal with SEC Network by then I am switching to Uverse the day it becomes available

i'm this boat.

as much as DTV hates on Dish in their marketing, there is no way they let Dish one-up them by no getting the SEC Network. if they think they can play chicken with a southern redneck football-loving demographic, they better think twice. I will change in a heartbeat as much trouble as that is. I have 3 addresses with DTV and they will lose my business at all 3, but i'm confident they will come through.

I have directv and love it.

I'm entrenched in the DirecTV ecosystem...

There's gear bolted to my roof, hung in my attic, wired through out my house, app's loaded on our phones, 9 year olds who know how to use the remotes, direct drafts on my bank account....

It all works so seamlessly. The mere thought of swapping out all that crap gives me a headache. I'll at least tough it out awhile and see how much I miss SEC football.

I have dish for TV and Comcast for internet. My TV package runs around $85 a mo. and my internet runs around $55 a mo. I dont think $140 is bad for both.

Dish just settled the one thing that would keep me from switching to them. They are getting Disney Jr.

Maybe that sounds dumb but that's the only channel my kids watch. So now there's really nothing holding me back from leaving Direct TV.

Currently have Direct TV

And feel certain they will be on board by the first game. My question is , how much is it going to cost? How many more channels are they going to bundle it with and force me to pay for a lot of crap I don't want. I could see them bundling The SEC network, The PAC 12 net work, the Big 10 and the longhorn network together and charging out the A$$ for it. They will probably throw Basket Weaving TV in for good measure.BUt yes, I will swap if they do not have it.

I have Directv and would wait a couple of weeks if need be. It took 6 years to acquire 3 Free DVRs and 2 over the air receivers.

It's going to be on your basic 100 channel tier in the southeast...not as an obscure part of an extra sports package. It's going to be just as highly distributed as ESPNU...

I pay $115 (taxes and everything) for TV/Internet/Phone. You just have to haggle and I love to haggle.

I don't believe ESPNU is on your basic 100 channel tier for Comcast. I honestly think it will be part of a sports pack b/c they know everyone will buy it.

Add my cell service in (no home phone), we're talking close to $300...

I might get you to come haggle my bill down then.

I have the same problem, and Uverse is not offered at my house. It's like myself and 4 elderly neighbors that are stuck with the only option being cable. If there is anyone on here who works for Comcast, **** your company.

Correct. It's part of the sports package. A friend of mine is a huge Rebel fan who goes to all their football games. But he refuses to pay $5 a month to get the sports package and bitches about missing basketball/baseball games that are on Fox Sports or ESPNU. Crazy. A full year of the sports tier would be less than he spends every weekend in the fall.

Me too, but I somehow have a clear shot at the Dish satellites. I used to have DirecTV, but my neighbor had a tree that every time it would get wet or icy, the limbs would sag and I couldn't get reception. So I switched to Dish for that reason only. Otherwise, I liked DirecTV. Since then, my neighbor has cut the tree down but I'm going to stick with Dish.

Had cable, and it was pretty good even though it had a lot of analog channels back then and not many digital. And I didn't like their DVR ... was jumpy. Have a Dish Hopper and all is well.

Got an email today that said the SEC Network will premier on Dish on August 14. Don't know when the first two games are.

Pretty sure that all the cable companies and DirecTV will have the SEC Network. I don't see how they could afford not to in this part of the country. It would be financial suicide for them.

I will not miss a second game because of it

I don't think I'll miss the first, I'll go visit with somebody if necessary.

I'm with cableone, and they seem to negotiate pretty hard! but they are not stupid.

But this not an optional situation.

On Dish, I already get the Big 10 and Brigham Young TV (not sure why anybody would want to watch that, but ....). I don't think the Pac 10 is on. But it's "free", or included in a sports package that I have. So they won't bundle the SEC Network with those. Not sure what they'll charge.

I like the Golf Channel and NatGeo ... and the only way to get those on Dish is to have the Favorite 250, or whatever it's called. That level, along with hopper and a couple of Joeys, runs me about $110. And I don't have HBO or any movie channels. Phone and extremely lousy internet with Wow! costs another $100.

Dish in central MS would be no good to me. We have it at work and the service stays out a lot because of weather.

Now DirecTV has issued a new statement, this time to Alabama's JOX radio station, which requested a DirecTV spokesperson come on the show to explain why they weren't carrying the SEC Network.
DirecTV declined to appear on the show, but it issued this statement to the Jox Roundtable, the mid-day show on the station:
"We strongly believe every SEC fan should have access to the SEC Network on DIRECTV and customers can rest assured that is our goal as we continue negotiations with the owners of the channel. Contract talks happen on a different timetable with each TV provider, so unlike our competitor, we have really just begun our discussions and hope to have an update on status as we move closer to the network's launch in August."

Translation: We've been holding off on adding the SECN and hoping the other providers would do the same to pressure the SECN into dropping their price, but now that Dish has screwed us by jumping the gun, we're going to have to start negotiating.

I have been looking for an excuse to drop Comcast. If I they don't get it, I will go w/o cable. Not planning on signing up for satellite either. I'll just watch whatever comes on the major networks.
