He owned us twice and that im still scratching my head on..
Nothing to scratch your head about they were mediocre and were one of the crappy teams they beat. If we could shoot maybe there would be reason to scratch your head. Simple the better (more mediocre) team won

yes the 3rd place team always beats the 4th place team every year twice. it's science.

Kevin Willard is socially awkward as befits a man who has spent his entire life focused just on basketball, so he uses sarcasm and humor often.
Remember he himself said he used to spend his college days not socializing with his fellow student but staying up all night diagramming plays for his dad. Doesn't make him a bad person but goes a long way to explaining why he does things as he did yesterday.

We at SHU saw that often, not just in the media but many times at the Beefsteak dinners.

I could give many examples but I'll just focus on this one. During a very sarcastic speech in talking about the program he interjected twice about his wife saying that with this comment I wouldn't be getting anything from my wife tonight. Comments made with priests and fans at tables with one priest sitting with his wife at table 1.
He was friends with my nephew and his family when he was at shu and they loved Kw, his wife and their kids. fwiw I think the public persona is often quite different from how they realky are. And if he acted that way cause he recognizes how ridiculous it is for coaches to have to give a comment on the way to the locker room Popovich gad this one right.

I liked his sarcasm, that he had the only white pkayers who cant shoot.

Respectfully Shaheen and ty got shu to a sweet 16 where amaker happened to be head coach. Need i remind you that he had a core of returning players to go along with a heralded freshmen class that managed to win 5 big east games out of 16 then rallied for a big east semi appearance where BC handily won. A preseason #10 ranked team that got as high at 8 or 7 had to rally to finish above. 500.
Sha played about 5 minutes vs Temple and we were getting killed when he sprained his ankle. And if we shot close to normal next game we were in the Elite 8

There was a 5 game gap in the standings between 3rd and 4th place. You’re making it sound like we were neck and neck with them. Our big east record was closer to last than we were 3rd. Villanova wasn’t good. Willard didn’t do such a great job. We were still worse by a good amount compared to them. It’s not science but Ray Charles could see it. Shame you couldn’t.

One of the reasons this board has taken a plunge is because the mere mention of Willard automatically starts a silly back and forth about his time at SHU.

The comments he made on Friday became a national tournament discussion that has nothing to do with SHU, yet a bunch of people here turned it into the same boring debate about what he did and and didn’t accomplish.

I yearn for the Pirate Crew of old. So much of what’s posted nowadays is making me want to surf elsewhere.

Every thread turns into one of 3 topics, Willard, Pitino or $8 million in NIl.

These anecdotes about his personality are very relevant to the national conversation.

If you really want to seethe board take a plunge, wait till tonight if SJU loses to Kansas. You might as well stay off for 48 hours. Real, objective, non-agenda filled discussion will have no place. It s going to be Tony S talking to Dr Melfi or Al Jazeera’s coverage of Oct. 7 and the Iran conflict.

I think this speaks more to everyone’s prognosis on the state of SHU basketball. We are all quite skeptical of the next season—rightly so with our NIL

But that’s the state of the game right now.

The well-endowed schools’ fans have nothing to worry about because even if they lose a player or two to a competing power conference school, they’ll absolutely strip the little and medium-sized schools’ best players.

Ultimately, this is what everyone from the money schools wanted. Here we are.

No. It’ll be worse if they win the National Title. Repole this, Slicky that, George Kurtz hates us etc, etc

Well, that's not going to happen, so we won't know. But recently there are way, way more threads (sometimes multiple threads) for the bad outcomes compared to the good outcomes.

If pitino loses early (and I hope he doesnt), as is his want, he will have lost quickly.

Good lord.

Even a Willard thread turns into a Pitino thread.

(And those posters will claim the ridiculous head rent space once the negative comments come out).

Everyone has an agenda.

Funny thing is that Blaney with Sha and Rimas went 10-18, 5-13 in the Big East. Three years later, Amaker has them in the Sweet 16. Just a coincidence?

The following year, Amaker had a bunch of freshman, albeit talented, but still freshman. Most freshman dominated teams just don’t perform. Interesting how some praise Orr for making the tournament with Amaker’s recruits.

If you believed that you would’ve been “that guy” around here posting who cares about COY, tournament success is what matters and we didn’t even make it
It does matter. But, this is a different era. Money talks and is everything. Can’t compare eras. If Sha has 9-10mil to compete, then judge by the results. Otherwise not to consider money is just naive.

Everyone has an agenda.
When I'm standing outside, the skies turn gray, lightning strikes, and water hits me from above, it's because it's raining. If someone says it's raining, it isn't an agenda. Especially when others will tell you its sunny and dry. It's reality.

This post made me feel sad. The haters, so to speak, have always been here. The difference is you are older now and many of the people you are yearning for are literally dead and buried. They are not being replaced by a younger generation. We are running out of people on Piratecrew.

Come on cern how much credibility do you want to lose here? Amaker has two 1st round picks on the roster and could not coach or people manage young adults

When we have 9-10 mil the others will have 15. It will always be a built in excuse here until someone like a Repole shows up here. Is the excuse good enough to give someone a lifetime contract despite 0 NCAAs. Or at some point will someone in the administration who says we are short on resources but maybe, just maybe in this country of over 300 million people there just might be someone who can get us there with the limited resources we have.

Sha (although I'm still not a fan of his offense) has demonstrably done more with less. You don't walk away from that so quick, especially given our situation. He gets at least another two years, especially after getting BE COY this year. Probably more.

Agree to disagree. This is my (probably flawed) logic. We were beneficiaries of 4-5 teams that were supposed to be decent who ended up being terrible. We're 12 months removed from 7 wins when the big east was above average. We played an atrocious OOC schedule to guarantee we would get double digit wins. Had we played Nova's OOC schedule there's almost no way we get to 20 wins this year. No doubt this year we did MUCH better than anyone expected, but I didn't see high level basketball. I saw a high level press that saved a team that played mediocre half court basketball.

We have issues offensively, but Sha is going nowhere anytime soon. And he shouldn't. Another few seasons of abysmal offense with no improvement and no postseason and maybe the seat warms up. But to suggest the reigning BE COY is on the hot seat right now is the height of loony tune land.

I just don't see it as looney tune land if we're 0-5 when it comes to NCAA tournaments. Providence got rid of a guy in 3 years for not winning. Ed Cooley's going to be under pressure next year. We're looking at as hey let's give him 7 years to see if he can make the tournament. Heck why not just let the decade go by before we do anything.
