I would think he was happy for USM to get it because Lane Burroughs had a good bit to do with recruiting a number of those USM starters. With him on our staff now, maybe we don't miss as many solid Mississippi kids that Coach Polk didn't have anything to offer.
Also, by USM winning and Ole Miss not, he buys a little more time. I think our rebuilding job is going to be bigger than what even he thought, so a little extra time will be needed and is surely appreciated.

I don't know that Ole Miss or USM going to Omaha would really affect our program that much in terms of recruiting. Most of Ole Miss's team were out out of state guys, and I think that USM reaped a lot of benefits from Polk's asshattery with recruiting. I'm not saying that USM will necessarily fall off of the planet, but it's definately going to be harder for them even with this trip to Omaha. Heck, we've already signed two of the top players in Hattiesburg.
