She was within her right to try to race. She earned her spot at the Olympics.

But it seems like a very silly decision for her personal health.

Someone really needs to tell Vonn to stop. She’s not going to be able to walk when she’s 50 if she keeps this up. It was crazy to try and ski with basically no ACL, with predictable results. Hopefully she’s done and can move on with the next phase of her life.

Meh, from all accounts she's pretty good at lying on her back. . . . .

It also was not televised live. It started at 5:00 PM eastern & was televised at 8:00 PM eastern.

Al Michaels call at the end "Do you believe in Miracles?" is still one of the iconic calls in sports history.
Netflix just put out a new documentary on it with most of the players reuniting at Lake Placid 45 years later. Really good watch. Still hard to believe our guys pulled that off in the Olympics. I personally think Herb Brooks is the best coach in any sport ever. Nobody else could have done what he did with that team. Besides winning multiple national championships at Minnesota and winning Gold in 1980, he also coached the US hockey team to the Gold medal game in 2002 where we lost to Canada and earned the Silver. This was of course after the pros were allowed to play. The 2 Brooks teams are the only 2 times we've medaled in men's hockey since 1960.

Biathlon is pretty crazy. Wear yourself out cross country skiing at an insane pace but then have to stop and target shoot with a rifle.

The Biathalon is the sport that makes me wonder.

Who thought up the idea of cross country skiing where you stop to shoot at a target with a rifle?

Seems like the inspiration for that would have come from the James Bond movie where 007 and the bad guy were skiing through a resort while shooting at each other. Can't remember which one that was.

I would have put money on the Finns inventing it. I would've lost said money.

Google says the following:

"Documents describe Norwegian and Swedish ski units fighting in the Second Northern War (1700–21), and, in 1767, the first recorded biathlon competition took place along the Norway-Sweden border between patrol companies. The sport was thought to provide valuable training as well as recreation."

Close enough. Pretty crazy sport today, but you can see that 200 years ago it made a LOT of sense in that part of the world.

More recently:

Hence my guess of Finland. I had no idea it was that old.

I just read that all the Today Show people are not going to the Olympics because they’re afraid their family members will be kidnapped. Strange times indeed.
I would have used that excuse too. Instead of sitting there watching a bunch of people sweep ice in front of a sliding rock or wonder htf they even score figure skating.
