Cowbell,
I find it extremely interesting that you claim to know the issues that I stand for and the fact that I have a good heart, yet we have never met, much less had a conversation about the issues that you bring up. Last night was a pivotal moment for the city of Starkville. I feel confident that we now have a board that will be able to reach a consensus on a number of things. No we won't always agree, but I can tell you that the future of Starkville is bright.
I ran a campaign based on quality of life and growth and development. Yes I am a landscape architect and a planner and I firmly believe that smart growth is a great thing that directly relates to YOUR quality of life and the fact that your hotel can be profitable. Streets, sidewalks, drainage, health care, infrastructure, etc. are all things that must be planned for and implemented TOGETHER. So no I will not, and I believe that this board will not, continue the fragmented patching of city infrastructure because we will start planning and implementing development and mitigation strategies that are all inclusive. I have practiced this as a professional planner, I have taught this stuff, and I am currently working with federal agencies who are doing this very thing, and Starkville will be better for it.
As for selling corn, I think this shows your disconnect with the cultural advantages offered in a progressive college community that is moving forward and 4 hours spent maintaining one of Mississippi's best Farmer's Markets doesn't affect police pay.
As for Sunday sales, I am for it and have been for it since day one and I think we have a board who can pass it and we can move on. The elections last night were the referendum.
Thanks to everyone for all the support. Cowbell, hopefully we can eventually meet and discuss things because Starkville will be better and it will be good for you to work with this board.
Jeremiah
