With Perry gone & maybe Oweh as well, we've only got an 11 man roster. Do we sign 1 maybe 2 more players?

If so, what positions would you like to see filled? Myself if Oweh returns or not I would love to see us sign a 6'6"/6'7" small forward that's shoots 40+% from 3 point range. If we can't get one from the transfer portal, then get us one out of Europe. Considering the number of injuries we had last season, I don't feel comfortable with only an 11 man roster.

I'm confident Oweh is back. He may go undrafted. His ceiling feels like late 2nd round right now.

I don't think Perry is a needle mover in terms of "we need someone else." I hope we use all the scholarships on developmental pieces. But the flip side of that: You risk running into the awkward situation of having to ask them to enter the portal to open up the scholarship. There was some talk in the thread about the judge ruling situation that the judge wants guaranteed roster spots or something to that effect. So if we take guys that aren't good enough to play in hopes they develop--you run the risk of being stuck if they don't turn into anything.

Why do you think Oweh is going anywhere? Have I missed something or is the sky is falling crowd striking again?
I'm really confident he'll be back.

I think we've just been burnt so many times by these fringe guys that have no business going. Many posters probably have some degree of PTSD from the Calipari days.

Obviously there are huge differences. NIL allows guys to make more money than getting drafted 2nd round(even late 1st round). We no longer have a coach PUSHING guys to the draft

And miraculously that coach has changed his philosophy now that he is somewhere else.

According to the NCAA site, there were only 5 forwards who shot over 40% from 3 last year in the entire country (I'm not sure of the minimum attempts to make the cut). None of them are available. That's quite the unicorn you're looking for!

Oweh will be back. Sure you’d like to replace Perry, but it will be with someone who knows they are a depth piece. Your main rotation is pretty much set with Lowe/Aberdeen(or Jasper)/Oweh/Mo D/Garrison or Quaintance

The only player I would be extremely happy with (currently known players) if Oweh leaves - would be Dame Sarr.

IMO - moot point - Oweh stays. Only way he leaves is if he retools his shot mechanics and impresses NBA scouts and gets a first round guarantee.

How many of you guys are going to continue to say this? It's so silly.

Oweh. Isn't. Going. Anywhere. If he stays in the draft (he won't) he won't get drafted. Then he will try/hope to make a G League roster as an undrafted FA and sign a super lucrative contract worth $50K or so. Or, he could go play in Turkey for about $250K. Those are his options. How any of you think that translates to him being anywhere but Lexington is truly beyond me.

I don't see any realistic chance Oweh leaves.

But even with him we could sure use one more shooting guard.

Pope has a good while now to sit back and see what may develop in terms of coaching moves, draft-test returnees, and international players. He got the part done that was time critical and he did a great job at it. Now he has the freedom to be much more slow and cautious if he wants to add that one final piece. And I for one am still hoping that's what he is doing. And has been doing.

I don't think Perry affects our equation on the court too much either way. But hey, if we really are thinking about adding one more guy late, just like we did with Jaxson last year, then that extra $250,000 to play with sure isn't hurting anything.

Oweh did not enter the transfer portal, will only go with a first round guarantee. That is not happening this year. He is testing waters so he gets feedback from teams on what he needs to work on this year. He is back unless like others say (he gets that first round $$), no mock draft has Oweh even near that and most do not have him on it at all. A couple have him late 2nd round.

I say be cautious but I have him on the roster for next year.

With that, I think if UK can get one more true PG, not a project, but a guy wanting a chance at a long run in the tourney and is ok making $300 to $500 k. A 1 year mid major kind of guy. Someone that will be willing to get scraps of minutes on blowout games.

Pope will grab another player if possible. Oweh 3.5 would land a stud not sure Perry money but have read 150k -250k so 3.75 million or so buys talent. Still crazy a kid riding the pine getting spot minutes making a couple hundred k plus all the other perks.

Sarr, Hawthorne, any of those guys wont come here. UK super fan Travis Perry didnt want to be the 12th or 13th guy, WTF makes you think Sarr or even Hawthorne would take that role of need in case of emergency player?

only chance at another player is someone ok with not playing , probably a walk on caliber player on a level better than our departing walk ons but not good enough to really play here either

Guys, there's nothing wrong with Oweh testing the waters. I'm glad he did. He knows he has a perfect position to work on his game this summer, to hear what he should continue to work on, then come back to UK and absolutely ball out for his Sr. season while he makes great money. This isn't your Coach Cal coached team. :)

Dude this isn't the Cal coached Cats I'm 100% certain that Oweh will be back he's going to just get evaluated. He's not on any draft boards, he's going to make a ton of NIL money next year at UK, and he talked about how much he loved Mark Pope.
Dude what part of the word maybe don't you understand? Do I expect Oweh back? Yes, but nothing is certain until it's certain. And with all the injuries we had last season it's hard to have too many players. With Oweh back I would still feel a lot more comfortable with one extra player.

Oweh is staying. I talked with his parents in Milwaukee after the Illinois game and they said he loves the university, Lexington, and CMP and the entire staff. I asked if he was coming back and they did not outright say yes, but their smiles and demeanor gave me the impression he would be back.
Our previous coach would have pushed him out the door, he would not be drafted, and playing in Singapore next year.
He is a great fit for next year’s team!

Just saw that it is very probable that Oweh returns. It said they will probably tell Oweh he needs to get more consistent in shooting the three and that would help him this off season to hone in on working on that.

Dude we have 12 players counting Oweh how many players do you want ? You aren’t going to get superstars to come warm the bench to be your 13th player . Let’s just say Oweh didn’t come back I’m sure Pope would get someone to replace him still that will be 12 players. Pope did a FANTASTIC job with the 12 he’s gotten and like I said Oweh is on no draft boards and he can make more on the NIL money he will get at UK then some over seas money or NBA 2 way contract. Mark my words Oweh is going no where and we have our 12 player roster.

LOL. Hell while we are wishing, maybe a stretch 4 who shoots 42.3%, and a center who shoots 41.4%, a 2G who shoots 45%,,,, Oh and maybe a PG who averages 8 assist per game. I think I will run out to my college basketball player tree and see if I can pick some good ins.

Oweh is a Cat, no need to hope / wish.

These people think 40% 3pt shooters grow on trees. Anyone shooting over 34% from 3 is more efficient than a guy shooting 50% from 2. So, if a person shoots better than 35%, they are pretty good.

Where would Oweh go? he didnt put his name in the transfer portal. oh you think the draft? when he's not even sniffing 2nd round draft boards? 0% he would make 2.5 million as an undrafted player so stop with all of this doomer posting about Oweh.
Thank GIF

UK has 2. Kam Williams and Mo Dioubate.
Good catch. It looks like the cut off is 160 3 point attempts, which is a lot. Jan falls right under that but was excellent from 3 last year as you point out. Diounaye only attempted 26, so that’s why he’s not included, but still has shown the ability to shoot from 3.

If Oweh stays, then we don’t need anyone else. 12 scholarship players is perfect. Unless we go grab a freshman 3 star or low 4 star point guard or a lower end transfer pg who knows they won’t hardly see the court at all. Otherwise we aren’t signing anymore big time transfers

We might already have that 40+% percent shooter in Chandler, he improved greatly towards the end of the year and should be even better with a full offseason of work.
