As far as the coach who leaves or is fired first.

I think he will leave before he is fired.

I dont think the other coaches are going anywhere soon.

Of the ones who would leave at the end of next season, I think he's the most likely. I don't think he's a bad coach; however, you've got two new coaches in Chizik and Mullen, Petrino's rebuilding and is good for next season, Saban is safe, and Ole Miss is not going to fire their coach one season after reaching the Cotton Bowl.

...hell, he hasn't even coached a game yet and he's already on the hot seat. Let Auburn post a 4-8 next year and it will get ugly quickly.

Miles isn't as good as he got credit for early, but he isn't bad last year. He will be at LSU for a while.

Chizik is gone after two years on the job. after two chaotic years, he will be canned and they try to find someone who can avoid being slammed by Saban's bammers.

Miles will bounce back with a good year in 2009 and quiet the idiots. LSU will think about what Auburn has done and not act in haste.

UM has learned its lesson and will be happy with a coach that can consistently win 7 or 8 a year with a spectacular year mixed in every 3 or 4 years.

Saban is Saban and may stay or may go depending on his whims. I think he stays.

Petrino's rep is now sealed and he is forced to sink or swim at Arky.

Mullen is at MSU for four years win, lose or draw. My guess is he wins about half of his games the first two years and by year three gets a bowl game; year 4 will be critical.

all said, fortune telling is a totally useless activity.

Miles, because the Cajuns are idiots, and have absolutely not patience
and Petrino, because the Pigs are are idiots, and think they are better than they really are.

Just an opinion!

with quality coaches the next 5 years should be very interesting

will Auburn find a coach that they like better before LSU runs off Les(s) Miles, because let's face it, Chizek is a stopgap until they can find someone capable.

So, my vote goes to Les DiNardo.

that goes against standard thinking, but here are my thoughts. Saban goes to ND after Weis pulls a dump once aGAIN...even with the easier schedule. (I would not be too surprised to see a Lou Holtz escape clause in Saban's contract with UAT. He has stated that he has always wanted that job.)

Miles?? I'm still not as sold on his ability as others are. I stated 2 years ago that sometimes Less gets that "Lost" look in his eyes and zones out on the sidelines....especially with some really dicey stakes on the line. I think we have seen the lack of premier talent this year....bear out the fact that great talent can overcome coaching. (In full disclosure, I think we have seen that poor coaching can destroy decent talent....exhibit A-- us.)

I think that Miles smells the gumbo and heads to Michigan. I have to agree with C34 that the deal was in the bag last year, and early release of the fact forced him into a corner. That Deal was DONE. Miles hand was forced. But it will not be after 2009.

I don't think it will happen, but I could see it. Say no one else gets fired and Mullen has a good year next year, say 6-6, then goes 9-3 the next year and leaves for a bigger school. It's possible.

I said The Hat though too. I think next year is his last year.

Saban's contracts do not have a buyout clause. It's just his standard operating procedure. Didn't have one at LSU or Miami. I assume that's also the case at Alabama.

started ticking pretty loudly after the Arkansas loss. Having said that, I think he probably has a couple of years and I have to agree with Barrister that Chizik's seat started heating up on the plane ride to Auburn.

Saban is god in Alabama, right now and he is a proven winner

Miles is a national champ and he is a proven winner. He beat Stoops, with Ok State talent, twice.

Petrino is in a good recruiting situation relative many schools. There is only one show in Arkansas and they can raid TX for additional players.

Mullen is new and has 4 years.

Chizik is a proven game-planner and motivator. He DC'ed two undefeated teams in the SEC and BIG-12 and won an NC. His TEX team was a finesse team before he took over. He took a **** job in ISU, but that's all he has done wrong. With Mahlzahn as his OC, this team could be special.

Nutt is not a proven recruiter as he only got Arkansas kids to play for Arkansas, no big deal. You can give him credit for some big wins, but he had some awesome local talent. OM's recruiting sucks compared to their success this year.

Miles and Chizik are clearly the most likely because of one reason, Saban. They are at the two schools with the most Saban-envy (LSU and Auburn), which means their fans will be most likely to get antsy over anything. I'll be willing to bet that one out of Miles and Chizik will be gone by kickoff of the 2011 season (meaning one will get canned after one of the next two seasons). I'm betting on Miles. Yes, he won a title in 2007, but the locals still give a lot of credit for his title to Saban. With Alabama doing well with Saban, they will get restless if Miles pulls another 7 win season.

Petrino, Nutt, and Mullen are all new on the job, and they aren't at Auburn, which means they have security for a few years. Also, I don't see any of those three having the opportunity or willingness to jump jobs in the next two years. And even if Nutt is doing a weak job of recruiting like you say, he's still got a solid core for the next couple years, which will keep him pretty secure in his job until at least after Chizik or Miles is gone.

Obviously the only way Saban is gone is if Notre Dame buys him, and that's unlikely.

I think Saban is a great college coach and he did turn UAT from 6-6 to 11-1 in one season. This being said, I see lots of things that make him far from a undisputed pack leader among SEC coaches. The top statistic is that his teams were nearly beat or shut down in the 2nd half of many games this season. Ole Miss had him on the ropes after going down early. Kentucky had him by the balls in the 2nd half. Florida dominated them after a tight 1st half. LSU took Saban to OT, despite a really poor freshman QB that tossed 4 INTs. Finally, Saban can only recruit 25 players per year and modern kids don't like to pay-dues or ride-the-pine.

Monte Kiffin is looking at Saban and thinking, "We ran this chump out of pro-ball after one season." With Chizik, you have a guy that knows how to game-plan for big games and is considered at expert in making his players tougher. Chizik will benefit from his low expectations. The Chizik/Malzahn team taking the defense and offense is as good a DC/OC team as you can get in the country. You will see Chizik modify Malzahn to emphasize more ball-control like Miles with Crowton, but you have a great deal of creativity in Malzahn.

Finally, do not forget that Saban's LSU teams never had outstanding offensive production despite having NFL talent in the OL, RBs, and WR's. His championship QB, Maulk, was reliable at best.

I think that either way, after the year after this coming one he will either be feeling a hot seat or just ready to leave, either good or bad. I think he gets a pass next year even if they suck because a lot of hog fans will still say it was Nutts fault, but in year 3 its hard to put the blame on the previous coach, especially one that won 18 games his last two years. If he wins the next two years he will probably try to step up to a national power in some way.

I think Nutt has 2 more years regardless and he seems to be recruiting fairly well, so Ole Miss might be in decent shape with him.

Saban is safe unless he just wants to leave, but I really see no reason for a move.

Miles will do better the next couple of years with all the talent and a half decent QB. Also the DC hire doesnt hurt at all.

Chizik will get a couple of years, but really with that retard Lowder there I dont think anyone is really safe.

Mullen can suck or do great, it really doesnt matter, we saw how many years they gave Croom, and you all will probably give 4-5 to Mullen even if he doesnt make you a lot better. Just to clarify, Im not saying he cant or wont, just saying he is safe regardless.

I couldn't believe how some of my coonass friends were carrying on about Miles after just three loses last season. If the whole fanbase is like that, they may not be willing to wait 2-3 years.

but I really think Miles will be able to do better this coming season. Even with that train wreck of a Co DC thing and the horrible QB play, they were still only 1 play from beating Ark, and 1 play from beating Bama. I realize thats all "ifs" and "buts", but I truely think with half decent QB play, I think he gets this with either Jefferson or one of the new guys, and the new DC, they should win 9-10 next year.

I don't disagree about Saban. He's a very good coach, but he's not a god.

However, the public perception, or at least the picture being painted by the media is that Saban is some sort of super-coach, which is what has created the Saban-envy. The 12-1 season this year has only intensified the media hype behind Saban, which has intensified the Saban-envy. Auburn fired their coach, even though Tubby was 4-3 against Saban head to head. Saban is no superman, but the media makes him out to be one, and that gets to both the Auburn and LSU fanbases more than anyone else.

They want their own superman so much that those two jobs will have the most pressure of all the SEC West jobs at least until Saban is gone. Right or wrong, Saban-envy has infected fans and boosters in both Auburn and Baton Rouge, which makes those jobs the least secure positions in the West.
