It's not the same thing. Hood's NBA status won't change based on whether he goes to Duke or MSU. The NBA will find the best talent regardless of where it goes to college.
In fact, Hood would be able to go to the draft this summer if he had stayed and had a good year. Since he has to sit out, he's going to have to wait until at least 2014, so it doesn't seem to be a very good decision for him in the long run. But whatever. 17 him.
Hood was nowhere near ready to contribute in the NBA at the end of last season. He could have made a massive sophmore jump, but coming in already highly skilled, i doubt a huge jump would have happened.
He was a 3 year player at least, and will still be a 3 year player at least. Perhaps he bolts after 1 season of play at Duke, but with Parker coming in along with Cook and that current freshman Sulamon(sp?), i doubt Hood gets the touches and attention to leave next season. I am sure he will impact the team very well and be a key player, but there wont be much of him as an individual.
Hood plus Parker plus Cook is a hell of a trio on the periemter.
