Is so bad, but sports in general in the Jackson area is bad. But WJTV is the worse.

I get my news from this message board. I’m only half joking.
I will admit someone will post a subject that I have not heard and I will go research myself. There is always more than one source, and you have to weed your way through it all to find a sliver of truth. We don't have news anymore. All we have is wings of both political parties.

WTVA in Tupelo has recently let go the sports personnel and per Twitters they are completely doing away with any sports reporting.

Sports segments don't sell high value advertising. Gotcha bull$h!+ (mostly political) that stirs up social media is what sells ads.

It's crazy to me that Jackson has Maggie Wade, Howard Ballou, and Melanie Christopher who have all been on the air on local news for over 40 years.
I haven't watched WLBT news desk or sports desk in years,

Yes, JTV's sports coverage is terrible from what I've been able to stomach of it over the past few years. DEI has destroyed journalism of all types. They've done it to themselves for the decades of slanted reporting and budget cuts and not bringing in talent with true potential to learn from the likes of Rob Jay, Chuck Stinson, etc. This is what happened when I was in the newspaper business, too.

Social media, podcasts and other internet-induced outlets have exposed it all. Jackson used to be a great market for news, sports and wx, but it now a wasteland of unqualified, untrainable and overweight newbies who are only drawing a paycheck. Even the crawl at the bottom of the screen is not edited for errors. I actually wish it would be done away with altogether.

This was probably the compromise since everybody threw a fit over them potentially dropping local weather for a regional approach.

The few times I’ve seen wjtv do sports in recent mo months the lady on there only uses last names…”and Johnson is going to hit jones wide open down the middle for a touchdown”. Not only does it show she has no clue what she’s talking about but she also doesn’t care what she’s talking about

I heard a rumor that WTVA was being sold. No idea if it’s just that station or something bigger.

I suppose that's in lieu of firing the weather folks, which raised such a stir. Got to save money somewhere.

Maybe she can't pronounce some of the first names.
