1. No way around it, we were flat as hell. You could see it the first drive. We put a ton of emotion into the Auburn game and just weren't up yesterday. We were just going through the motions with no fire. Even the backups looked like they didn't give a damn. As I texted one of my buddies (it was still 23-7 at this point): "We're so flat. I'll just be happy to leave with a W."
2. A win is a win is a win. In years past, we'd have found a way to lose that game, especially when Troy cut it to 2 at 23-21. Instead, we mounted an answering drive, stepped on their throats, and escaped with a W. Nice display of a killer instinct we've lacked over the years, even on a night when we were flat.
3. Troy isn't your average Sun Belt team. They played hard, have a good offense, and put 2-4 players in the NFL pretty much every year. Yeah, we should still handle them, but give them a little credit for being ready to play. They've knocked off some good teams and saw an opportunity to do it aGAIN.
4. Perk is trying his best to prove he can be an every down back who carries the load. His runs on the draw last night were huge.
5. I'll say it for the 18 millionth time: I love Josh Robinson (no homo). He runs angry. I love that in a RB. Give him the ball and get the hell out of the way.
6. Our WRs blow. Where is Morrow? Yet another product of the MState hype machine, apparently.
7. Where were our tight ends? Zero involvement last night. I may have missed one, but I don't remember a single ball thrown to a TE. Hurry back, Malcolm Johnson.
8. Along the same lines: Where were Tubby & Robert Johnson? Those guys have been dynamic for us so far. And RJ has the big frame almost no other WR has for us. Tubby is our most electric player with the ball in his hands. Get them the damn ball and let 'em make plays. But ditch the damn Wildcat and give those snaps to Dak.
9. Darius Slay is a beast. QBs are having to pick their poison with Banks & Slay. Right now, Slay is benefiting from everyone knowing how good JB is and throwing away from him. It'll be interesting to see what teams do in the passing game as Slay's pick count climbs.
10. Nice to see Nickoe finally bring the wood to someone last night. He's been arguably the quietest player on D so far this season. His numbers are good, but almost no big plays or big hits before last night.
11. If we NEVER play that ******** soft zone aGAIN, it'll be too soon. Ditch that **** and get after it. Might as well get ready to ***** next week, though, because you damn well know Wilson will pull it out aGAIN for South Alabama.
12. I expect to see a much better effort Saturday. It won't be the effort we'd get in an SEC game, but I don't think you'll see us come out flat and/or stay flat all night, either.
13. Devon Bell should have been forced to walk back home to Natchez. He finally makes a FG, then misses an XP. Total headcase. Showed how big his leg is on the FG, though. Still, he's likely to cost us a game at some point if we can't get his head screwed on straight. Lack of a kicker is the only real gripe I have with Mullen at this point. No excuse for it in year 4. I'm ready to give one a scholly if I knew it guaranteed dude would be good. Seems like we're stuck with Bell, though.
14. We're going to skulldrag UK and roll into the UTK game at 5-0. Should be hella fun and DWS will be rockin' for that game. Sweet baby Jesus, please let that be a night game.
15. Now, chill the hell out and move on. Every team has at least one or two games like this every season. That doesn't make it who you are.
16. I vote we replace the Black Bearz with the War Hawks. Also, how did EVERYONE miss on Kolton Browning? Dude can ball.
