Good grief
That is pretty well true of all women's sports. HS boys are more impressive on the course than LPGA players and women's tennis looks like it is being played at 3/4 speed. Women's basketball is probably the worst since no accommodations are made to make the game easier for the women like lowering the basket or playing on a smaller court. It almost distracts you from the horrific play.
Seriously, I don't get the draw of WBB. It's all so awkward looking, the way they dribble, run, pass, shoot. I have never seen a WNBA highlight that looked like smooth, crisp, athletic basketball. You can probably stitch together some clips of individual plays that make it look sharp, but any time you see a clip of extended action, it's awful. Even saw highlights of the all-star game and it looked like church league kids throwing the ball around like crazy. Balls off the back of the backboard, bottom of the rim, airballs, passes to nowhere. Are people this much in denial about it? It's unquestionably terrible basketball. Middle school boys basketball is a better basketball product, and that's not hyperbole.

Yeah, my problem isn't with women's sports. If women want to play sports, fine, they should play them. My problem is with the dishonesty about their ability and the force feeding of women's sports to the public by the media. The same thing is going on with women's football (soccer) in the UK.I'm not denigrating women's sports. But how are thousands of people showing up to watch this mess every night? And 20,000 when Clark plays? I don't care what anyone says, it's not entertaining. Anyone who argues otherwise is obviously lying to prove a point, unless you say it's entertaining from a comedic perspective.
Don't mind women's sports...rah rah and all that. But there are some who argue they prefer WBB to MBB. So ludicrous and transparently false. Nobody could watch MBB and then see WBB and say "Yeah, this is slower, less athletic, more clumsy and awkward...it's great!".
I know it's hard to critique WBB around here since it's far and away our most successful sport right now. I believe some fans feel compelled to defend the overall sport for that reason alone.Yeah, my problem isn't with women's sports. If women want to play sports, fine, they should play them. I don't think getting 10,000 people to show up for any event in a metro area of several million with non stop shilling by local and national media is anything to be proud of. I believe I could draw a crowd of 10,000 to watch a chess match if it got the same promotion women's basketball gets. The gallery at LPGA events is a better indicator of the real following women's sports has.
Anyone who says WBB is better to watch than MBB is either clueless or has an agenda.
No cover girls? Sophie Cunningham will make a million dollars this year on her looks, not her play. Cameron Brink is a cover girl, as are Angel Reese, Skyler Diggins-Smith, Nika Muhl, Candice Parker, Lexie Hull, A'ja Wilson, Haley Van Lith, etc.Woods in his time was not only phenomenally the best there was but most importantly, *entertaining* to watch. I play a good bit of golf but the only time I'll actually watch on television now is if there is some drama involved; Scheffler is phenomenally good, but when he's not farting he's about as entertaining to watch as paint drying.
That's the deal with Clark; she is entertaining to watch. Others in the league are good but not particularly entertaining; with a couple of exceptions, the rest are relatively ugly women both looks and style wise and not fun to watch. Its roller derby with no cover girls.
Hence the ‘couple of exceptions’ caveat, although there are scant few of those you list I would classify cover girls. No cover girls? If those are what you consider "cover girls", we have vastly different standards of beauty. No cover girls? Sophie Cunningham will make a million dollars this year on her looks, not her play. Well, they say beauty is the eye of the beer holder. If those are what you consider "cover girls", we have vastly different standards of beauty.
Some of them fall into the category of "good looking for a girl athlete" but they are a long ways from cover girl material.Well, they say beauty is the eye of the beer holder.
Cover girls are women who grace the covers of fashion magazines. Vanity Fair, Vogue, Elle, Cosmo, Essence, etc. They look a lot better in make-up and designer clothes than on the basketball court. Haven't you seen some hideous pictures of movie stars when not prittied up?If those are what you consider "cover girls", we have vastly different standards of beauty.
This past weekend there was a women's championship football game on TV. This was not the lingerie league. I never knew there was such a thing. You could tell that the only fans there were family or friends. I doubt they had more than 1500 there. Anyway, it was God awful. I'm talking terrible, and these were the leagues two best teams. The fact that they put it on TV was hilarious.Yeah, my problem isn't with women's sports. If women want to play sports, fine, they should play them. I watch NASCAR. I would also watch the Braves, but since they suck this year I'm not watching them very often. What sport are we going to watch this time of year? Baseball?
I am a supporter and don't care that you are anyone else doesn't support it. My issue, can't speak for anyone else, is the constant harping on it. It's almost like you are mad that someone else appreciates it. After awhile, it's like, "Dude, what's your problem". For example, this thread has been here for over a month and a half. It's like an Anti-Women's sports rehab or something.Yeah, and the "supporters" get really overly defensive about it too. Like you have to agree the girls sports are awesome or else there's something wrong with you. Maybe they're trying to convince themselves more than they are trying to convince others?
If the wnba was as good as some think, would it need to be pushed so hard?
I got you. You are one of the few posters on this thread I get. I used to watch the Braves. Dad still does, but I fell out with baseball and not sure if I ever will come back. So, WNBA it is until football season starts. My issue this whole time is some poster's constant hatred for the girls even attempting to play. You ever had a friend whose girl dumped him. They tell all the many ways she was terrible, but they keep talking about her. After awhile, you say, "Dude, call that girl on the phone and make-up or STFU". That's the dynamic this thread has to me.I watch NASCAR. I would also watch the Braves, but since they suck this year I'm not watching them very often.
You are right. All of those girls are nice looking in their own way. Some are a little tall and a lot of men are not comfortable with that. I can't lie. It hurt my heart when I found out Candace Parker was down with the alphabet mafia. You mean fine a** Candace Parker go that way too? Don't go by how some of these girls look on the court. Give them time to make up like the other girls do. A lot of them clean up quite well. For example, all 3 of the girls Carolina got drafted clean up well, and while not 10s, they are cute. Bree Hall is cute. Saniya Feagin. Big Girl, but cute. even Pao-Pao appears to have resolved her teen acne issues and cleans up nicely. No cover girls? The women's basketball is smaller and lighter than the men's. So, I think the hoop should be smaller. The rim should be lowered. That is pretty well true of all women's sports. Bingo. If they just shut their mouths, played ball and had a grateful attitude for the charity they were being given, I would have no issues.
Anyone who watches does so out of guilt or b/c they are just such a desperate sports fan, they are compelled to watch something...anything...even if it's crap.
Yep. They have been able to pretend to be professional basketball players due to the generosity of the NBA. Then they've had the gall to demand more.Of course we are free to talk about things we think are stupid. The only reasons I choose to talk about the WNBA are the sociopolitical reasons that have become so intertwined with the league. All the equality stuff.
News flash: it's not equal. It's grossly inferior to men's basketball, and even boy's basketball. There is zero question that a very good boy's high school team would manhandle a WNBA team. Nobody debates that. It is undeniably crappy basketball. I would guess there are 5-10 players in the league who look good playing ball...Clark, that Paige girl from UConn and probably a few others. The rest are utterly ridiculous looking. NOBODY watches the WNBA because it's a good product. Anyone who watches does so out of guilt or b/c they are just such a desperate sports fan, they are compelled to watch something...anything...even if it's crap.
They don't deserve to be paid more. They don't deserve to be paid less. They don't deserve to be paid at all. Yet, those moronic players in the league actually see what they do as on par with the NBA. And idiots on ESPN push the narrative.
If they just shut their mouths, played ball and had a grateful attitude for the charity they were being given, I would have no issues.
This is hilariousApparently, someone threw another one at a game. I really hope this becomes a "thing". Hilarious.
