A few things. WNBA is a joke. Angel Reese is a joke.

Has anyone seen the new sport Roofball. WTF. This is just another game that we made up as kids that is now televised. What's next? Toilet paper the yard or BB gun war?

Still funny jokes.

About roofball? I actually saw professional pillow fighting on ESPN. I kid you not.

It is stories like this which compel me to talk about the WNBA even though I don’t care about the WNBA. These attempts to guilt us into believing the players in the WNBA are somehow being wronged and that there is a moral obligation to pay them more. Simply on the basis that they feel they deserve more. Not for any economic or business reasons, just because to them it is self evident that they deserve more money. Well, guess what? If the janitor makes more than you, that means the janitor is valued more than you.

They're a bunch of naive women that get paid to play because of the men's successful NBA league. None of these women have a clue about how businesses operate. Their over inflated sense of self is off the charts.

That wasn’t the greatest analogy! If the janitor doesn’t do their job the arena isn’t ready to play games in, so yes they are important and since they are actually working probably deserve higher pay!

There's actually more betting action on the color of the next doe thrown on the court than the actual games themselves. 🙂

The fact this thread is still going shows just how much we need football back. August 30 can't get here fast enough.

Someone found a way to keep the WNBA relevant without Clark and they are against that too.

Seems like there may be some endorsement opportunities here :ROFLMAO:.

The best player in the world? Seriously? How did she, the interviewer and tha cameraman keep a straight face when that was uttered?

And if a janitor is making more than you, that should tell you something.

UFC reportedly just secured a 7-year $7.7 billion deal with Paramount.

WNBA media deal is 11 years for $2.2 billion.

And they had to get the NBA to leverage even that much for them.
Indeed.

Just out of curiosity, I looked at MLS. They have a 10 year $2.5 billion media rights deal.

Maybe the WNBA media rights deal isn't as much of a win as we're being told.

This isn't a very fair comparision. :)

"More conservatively, a 2023 report estimates UFC reaches nearly 950 million broadcast and digital households worldwide, with 100 million fans in the U.S., suggesting up to 850 million potential viewers (not necessarily fans) outside the U.S."

WNBA games are available for overseas viewing.

Once you realize the media rights deal was a gift from the NBA, just like the entire league has been for 30 years, it makes the "pay is what you owe us" even more cringey.

It's almost like someone is yanking your chain just to get responses....
If people overseas aren't watching the WNBA, whose fault is that?

Aside from the above, over half of WNBA players play in overseas leagues in the offseason. You'd think that would stimulate strong interest overseas, right?

UFC Fighters represent their country in the sport and train in their own country.

A good chuck of WNBA foreign-born route through our college system and most all of them reside in the US.

Pretty big difference.

I got a chuckle out of it. Its like boasting about being the tallest midget.
I saw a meme of Labron on the floor stating that "This ***** throws himself on the floor every night" I laughed while i typed it.

It's super easy. UFC fighters represent their respective countries. WNBA players represent cities in the USA.
After Victor Wembanyama was drafted #1 overall, NBA viewership in France surged 41% on NBA league pass and 23% overall. NBA League Pass subscriptions jumped 26%. His first game was the most watched NBA game in France's history.

This although he was representing San Antonio.

Similarly for Giannis in Greece. I could go on.

He played for the French Professional Team until he went to the NBA?

Well over 90% of the WNBA are former NCAA athletes.

The UFC is probably close to 90% international athletes representing their own country.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

What does that matter for your argument? lol, you are grabbing at an ever shrinking pile of straws here.

YOUR argument was that foreign-born WNBA players don't boost foreign viewership b/c they represent US cities. Your argument.

You're getting a good workout moving those goalposts.

Apples to Apples.

NBA viewership surged in France after Webanyama was drafted.

There is no evidence that WNBA viewership in Lithuania has been boosted following Justė Jocytė being drafted #5 overall.

Both played for their country's national team.

Nope. My argument has been consistent -- comparing UFC Viewership Stats to WNBA Viewership States is an exercise in futility. This begins with the fact that they have completely different audience bases as outlined above.

They apparently differ in that one has fan base while the other does not.

Your argument has gone from:
WNBA ratings overseas are not as strong as UFC b/c UFC has so many more foreign born players to...
WNBA ratings overseas are not as strong as UFC b/c UFC fighters represent their country while WNBA players represent a US city to...
You can't count an overseas ratings boost for an NBA player if the player in question previously played for the national team. (Why not? No rationale provided.)

That's quite a train of thought.

That's because I'm not thinking one-dimensionally like your original assertion.

There's a slew of reasons why the UFC and the WNBA would have completely different viewership numbers.

Do we need to get into why mens sports in general has a larger audience than the women?
