As far as contemporary music goes...Haim's first album "Days Are Gone." Really fun 80's-esque album. They have a new one coming out soon.

Also enjoy some of Jenny Lewis' stuff.

I can't tell you how many times I listened to this song when I got divorced.

"Pretzel Logic" literally kept me from losing my sanity during my divorce. One of these days I'm going to do a play list of my separation and divorce!

Also like Lera Lynn. Her music was used in season 2 of True Crime. That was some really depressing stuff. Her new album from last year was pretty good.

Chvrches? niceee.

That name made me think of another band with a vowel replacement, PVRIS. Not sure this lead singer has fully shown here capabilities. But she can sing and she's smoke. 1:30 in for the chorus.

Yeah dude. A synth pop band out of Scotland and their amazing

Anne Lennox makes me want to walk on broken glass when I hear her sing
Joan jet is garbage. There, I aid what most think.

Norah Jones is also very good.
Stevie nicks is caught in the middle

Janis
Heart- when they do stairway to heaven and you see Robert plant crying it's an amazing moment.

Gotta give some Motown
Aretha franklin
Dianna Ross and the supremes
Dusty Springfield- son of a preacher man
Whitney- she was amazing until bobby brown killed her quicker than sugar knight killed rap. Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

Lorde- not sure if it's the South Park thing but she's unique I like that about her
Gotta give props to adel not a huge fan of hers but she can sing.

I'll win a lot of points for this one, but politics aside props to madonna. Just like a prayer was a badly song video for its time it costed her a deal with Pepsi.
Amy lee who was mentioned early who's other Shaun Morgan from seether is an excellent singer.
I see no one has shown any love for sinead o'Conner or Melissa etheridge.

Heard Samantha Fish for the first time at the WC Handy Blues festival last month. She sounded great. What are some of her best songs?

I looked at the title of this thread again, ain't no woman singer ever made me change the channel. I listen to what I want. Some woman ants to start messing around with my radio. I tell her to get her head down and enjoy the ride. Smh...

Good call on pink I dig her. She don't gaf. Even though she was lumped in with the Brittany spears/Christina crowd she didn't sell out like Gwen stefani who is good in her own right. But pink tells it like it is and she's not afraid to take chances

Those are two musical icons that are meant to do a duet together. It would be a smash hit even before it we're to be released, especially if phill Thomas katt is producing it.

Surprised nobody has listed Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders?

Joni Mitchell also deserves a mention.

Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth - although not songs one would hear on the radio.
Same with PJ Harvey and Liz Phair (early stuff).
