Wonder who will get Ellis Johnson as their DC next season?

He will be a hot commodity as a Defensive Coordinator once he gets canned in November. I like EJ, but that USM team may be the first team to ever win 12 games one year and then lose 12 the next. Once Ole Miss gets back to their losing this weekend and carries it through November, and USM continues what they're doing, Mullen and Co should be setup for one of the best recruiting opportunities in the State's history.

Going to USM now, and that link said the possibility of 3-9 is very real. I will disagree with that. I don't know if the team wins three. It's pretty bad. Alford needs time to develop while Campbell tries not to 17 up while making sure that Lampley gets the ball.

Ellis is proving he is a very good defensive coordinator, but not much else. It might be time to move back to Caroliney. This makes the Bower era look like a powerhouse dynasty.

Ellis left Mississippi Southern in 1989, but Mississippi Southern never left him. They can't abandon one of their own!

No. Last year they had a terrible fundraising year and only raised $5 million for the entire university.

I just dont see them having enough to pay for two coaches in one year.

Given the facts of how bad things are, couldn't he just quit and they call it

even money wise? That might work to everybody's benefit.

Not sure how much of that is Johnson's fault.

Ellis is proving he is a very good defensive coordinator, but not much else. It might be time to move back to Caroliney. This makes the Bower era look like a powerhouse dynasty.

I talked to one of the ten a couple of days ago, and apparently he basically has a high school coach acting as his coordinator. This was a guy basically hired to be a position coach and help with the recruitment of Alford, and when they lost their Offensive Coordinator shortly before the season (not sure why they lost him; I zoned out b/c he was talking about USM football), they were stuck without a decent replacement. Not sure you can fault EJ as it's not like it's easy to find a coordinator at that time of the year and it's not like USM is drowning in money or prestige to go out and pull a good one from somewhere. Also, apparently their is discord on the team because they think the OC is playing favorites with Alford (who he coached in high school).

This is a problem he didn't need and couldn't afford since he was already switching offenses (although staying with a spread) and had the typical drop off in talent you would expect after a particularly good year.

Hopefully, he'll get it turned around. He deserves something good for dragging a Crooms team to an 8-5 record.
