I don’t know if he quit or not but I did go to the Madison central and Brandon game earlier this year and both teams looked really bad.

WOW! Always thought that was a head-scratcher of a hire. But didn't expect him to be fired/quit in the middle of the season. I guess Will's dad is the interim coach (and maybe the permanent one).

If you're being serious his first hire ought to be Will .

The word "toxic " between him and the players is what I've heard from at least 3 Brandon parents. They didn't go into any detail what that meant though.

There won't be a shortage of candidates for that job.

No idea why people keep hiring that guy.

He'd be OK at some schools. Always looked like a terrible fit for Brandon though. I figured he'd last about a season. Turns out I overestimated him.

Brandon has its own share of toxicity. Meld that together with an old school guy and here you are.

I mean they hired him knowing exactly what he is. Somebody around there got spoiled and didn’t appreciate what they had so they went all moo u gotstarundabawl on them.

Lance is an old school, hard nose coach who doesn't put up with much. From the beginning it didn't seem like a fit. 042 Brandon is full of SoJack refugees are crazy, I imagine there is a bit if meddling in the program.

Former Dawg WR, Sam Williams, was the coach there last year, he was 45-10 at Brandon, the AD and coming off a State Championship appearance, he left for Mobile.

I could have been someone
Well, so could anyone

Note: I have no idea who any of these people are. I just saw the name Pogue and thought “Fairytale of New York”.

Didn’t realize Sam played for us. I know his parents. Really good people. His dad is a very intense dude. Big, strong & a really good tennis player. Really good guy.

As someone from 042 Brandon who still visits there on a weekly basis, this is news to me.

Brandon and South Jackson aren’t in any way similar. I think many more of those folks ended up in Pearl, Richland, 047, Ridgeland, Clinton, etc.
He pretty much nailed it. I don’t see how you can be a regular there and not know that. Nobody said those areas are similar. But a ton of SoJack folks did in fact move to Brandon and have been for over 20 years.

Nope. Grew up in real Brandon and live there now. This is as wrong as you usually are.
I’m going by my two co-workers, one grew up in SoJack (he’s late 50s) and says that most of the people he grew up now live in 042. A younger co-worker agrees that many of her neighbors are from SoJack. That’s all i got, i’m in 047/Flowood.

BTW, i do think Flowood will become the next Ridgeland, too many apartments/rentals and too close to Jxn.

So you are saying two people are a ton. While this may be true on SPS, I don't think its true in general. LOL.

BHS has become pretty bad by standards. SoJack has gotten into the school just like NWR. Fights earlier in the school year was daily. A lot of people are wanting some changes at Brandon, not just Head Ball Coach. Also, rumors are the players are trying to run the program like Sam did and Pogue wanted to run it his way. Plus people not happy he let go the D Coordinator.

Look at Columbia the year before he arrived, look at his year, look at Columbia with old coach back this year.

I think people not from Jackson consider Pearl, Richland, and Byram to be south Jackson.

Turns out when the previous coach was 45-10, hiring a guy who's going to do everything the exact opposite of what that coach did isn't such a great idea after all. Who could have seen something like this coming? **

His one season in Columbia was the worst season they've had in the last 8 years. Granted it was still a pretty good season, but not what Columbia has gotten used to.

We're not talking about thug culture here. We're talking about people fleeing the Jacktown stuff.

If you are denying that there's a huge amount of people in Brandon who grew up in SoJack and southern Hinds County in general, well you're just on crack or don't get out that much.

If Brandon is bad, then the Metro doesn't have much of a chance. There and the two Madison schools is about all there is as far as a truly decent public school.

Yup. People love to latch onto the one weak point of someone, which in Sam's case was not winning the damn championship game, and hang them for that. They think they have to do everything different to get that small differing outcome. Craziness.

Zach Arnett learned that the hard way too. Unfortunately most of our fans still have not.

Here's what a parent of a player told me.

The principal that hired him in the spring left at the end of the year. Pogue came in and changed everything. The MHSAA put them on probation for having illegal practices this summer. They were preseason No. 2 and expected to challenge Tupelo for the state title in 7A.

They opened with Tupelo and played them close in. the first half but Tupelo pulled away in the second half - no one thought anything of it because Tupelo is a beast this year. They had really ugly wins against Madison and Clinton where the offense could not move the ball (something Brandon has never had a problem with).

They went to Alabama and played Clay-Chalkville (a good team) and got blown out. Then they lost to Starkville the week after West Point had a running clock on them. That was the game where the community realized this was not a good match. They opened up region play with a 3-0 win over Northwest Rankin and no one showed up at the coach's show the week after. Then they lost to Petal last week and all hell broke loose. Players only meetings threatening to boycott- parents at the school board - everything. He stepped down. They have Oak Grove this week and will get beat down.

Does Brandon think they are supposed to better and better every year? I mean NIL doesn't exist at the H.S. level. Might be why Sam was looking to get out after last year.

The community is very supportive of BHS and its athletic teams. Only having one high school in 042 and no private schools helps to rally that support. If you play Brandon in anything they will bring a crowd. I remember when my youngest was playing middle school volleyball there was a tournament where there were 500 Brandon supporters. That's great for them, but it also creates a community that demands more out of their high school teams than they should.

Brandon has played for a state championship in football nine times - they are 0-9. They are desperate to win a title. Its a little loco that it hasn't happened. But the booster club and community is all in on BHS football and that 3-4 start where they could have easily been 0-7 (all three of their wins needed a defensive stop late to seal the victory)

They beat Madison 17-7. It was 10-7 and Madison was driving and they threw a pick six.
They beat Clinton 14-9. Clinton was stopped in the red zone on downs twice in the 4th quarter
They beat Northwest Rankin 3-0. Northwest had several chances as well.

What Pogue did to Brandon’s offense was stupid & inexcusable. This was their only chance to save the season. BTW, Brandon is 0-4 in state title games. 4-7 in semifinals.
