Fast forward to 1/3 of the way through the season.
This guy gets inserted by Rick into the lineup at the 4, because magically, "The offense just goes better when he is out there?" He plays 30+ min per game because he rebounds well, moves well without the ball, distributes, is cerebral*, and of course is undersized at this position.Smithpicks up more minutes at the 1, Dee slides over to 2 because there has to be someone available to shoot it at the last second of the shot clock, Hood and Gardner are solid at 3, all the while,Moultrie is now playing 30+ min at the 5. Steele gets 10-15 min at the 2/3, There will be chatter from our coaching staff aboutwell......4&5 are really interchangeable positionsjust like 1&2 babble babble, but Wendell Lewis is staring down at the floor scratching his butt. Here is the kicker. Sidney shows upstill fat, still winded after 2 trips up and down the court, still lacking on defense so whatdo we do? Do we coach him up, no, we simply use him for about 12 minper game asstrictly an offensive weapon. The offense whenhe is in is throw the ball to Sid and let him score. The other team members resent this. Chemistry goes to poo poo. Sid resents this because at 12-15 min per game he can't showcase his skills, yo? Check back to this email when at the end of our second or third SEC game, even though our team is winning, Sidney freaks out and punches Marcus Grant in the head or throws a chair onto the court or something awful. This scenario seems to be a real possiblity given what we start with this season and it is all predicated on one of my favorite tendencies of coach Stansbury, to play a little guy out of position at the 4. There, I said it.
It is not all doom and gloom, because we are still winning at this point.......we are just doing it in poor form with the associated drama and antics. I like to win and think we will. Fire away.
