If Rutgers was serious about football hire Jim tressel. Name him as an advisor or assistant something and let one of his cronies run the Rutgers program for a year. But everyone knows it's really tressel running things and he will be named head coach as soon as the coast is clear .
The jets were set to do a similar thing with parcells and belichick when parcells left the pats and Kraft was trying to block him from coaching the jets.
This would take some vision and guts , 2 things I don't think Rutgers has . Bring tressel in and we will be playing for a BIG chanpionship in 2019.

Why does this guy's name keeping coming up. Rutgers can not afford but more importantly he has had bigger off the field issues are much bigger than Floods.
He is not candidate at all for Rutgers, he maybe the worst.

So his players got some free tattoos and sold memorabilia . Big deal . Last I checked there are no tattoo parlors in New Brunswick and Piscataway . The guy is a great coach.

Given the microscope that Rutgers football will be under, how can anyone think Tressel is a realistic or feasible replacement without forgetting to take their meds?

First, it's not like he is sitting at home doing nothing. Guy is the President of aUniversity. You should mention his name as a replacement for Barchi before Flood.

Tattoos were not the reason he got fired, he lied to the NCAA.

Ok so he lied to the ncaa, one of the most hypocritical organizations around . I don't care if he lied , he wins football games, except for the vacated wins . You play to win the game . Nothing less. Are we the moral police ?

If this is you showing your true colors, then you need to get something through your head, pretty quickly.

You're looking for Rutgers to be one of those programs, one of those schools, that puts a winning football team above absolutely everything else.

That is NEVER going to happen. Not in anyone's lifetime. NEVER.

You need to cut your losses and go find another team.

Sadly you're probably right . But we have to compete with the big boys . Getting drubbed in often in conference games does no one associated with Rutgers any good . It doesn't mean we need a football program where winning is above everything , but winning should be above most things . Otherwise we don't belong in this conference .

No, see... this is where I think you might be missing a piece of the puzzle.

@ruhudsonfan and I argued this point with a number of people in a long thread last week. We actually DON'T "have to compete with the big boys". Purdue doesn't compete with the big boys. Northwestern and Minnesota, while slightly more competitive than Purdue, don't compete with the big boys. Neither do Indiana or Illinois.

The "big boys" in this conference, historically, are Ohio State and Michigan. Those schools have stone-cold football cultures that we don't really have a clear path to, at this point. Michigan State and Wisconsin have historical success, but they have also had some pretty noteworthy dry spells in their history. Nebraska and Penn State are storied programs, but each had the bulk of its success outside the Big 10, with legendary coaches and I think reasonable people would have to say that, for now, the jury is out on where those schools end up - BUT - they both also have very rich football cultures and very large fan bases who are 100% dedicated to supporting the team.

As we discussed last week, if you're looking to draw analogs, Rutgers is much closer to that first group than it is to the second. And there is absolutely nothing in anything that Robert Barchi has said which indicates that "we have to compete with the big boys". Quite the opposite, actually.

As much as it pains me, personally, I think that if Rutgers is going to have a shot at being a household name in Big 10 athletics, the opportunity lies with basketball. We have more of a chance of being Indiana than Ohio State or Michigan. It's easier to turn around a hoops program, from a personnel and logistics perspective. The NY/NJ metro area has a much higher density of high-quality basketball recruits than football recruits. And, frankly, our perception outside of our own fan base is more aligned with basketball than football because we've had greater historical success on the court, as opposed to on the field.

Ru4real I fear you may be right . I do however want us to compete with the big boys . I don't think it does the university any good getting drubbed on the football field . My feeling is if we are in this league we should compete , not lay down . I know barchi may have other ideas .

Bulletin boards are places for people to blow off steam and discuss things, even crazy things, so it's fine. But we will never see Jim tressel as our coach.

Tressel's show cause was about more than OSU.
The NCAA only could use the Buckeyes to punish Tressel, but his time as the Youngstown St HC had just as much to do with his show cause as anything that happened at Ohio St under his watch.
The NCAA just couldn't admit the show cause was also because of the Youngstown St violations and how he was part of covering them up .
Any school that hires him ( before or after show cause expires) can expect the book to be thrown at them, even for a minor violation, because they hired someone that the NCAA doesn't want in the college coaching ranks.

Forget about Tressel , he's toxic and RU has proved to be able to put themselves in bad situations without any help.
So far those mistakes hasn't brought the NCAA down on Rutgers, hire Tressel they would

Tressel has moved on! He wants no part of this nonsense!

The only way you will get him to Rutgers would be to:
- Drive a VW bus to Youngstown and kidnap him like Ray Kinsella managed to do with Terence Mann
