True. But what non-KY bourbon measures up?
You want a list?

MGP is the best KY Bourbon made in Indiana.🤫

Smoke Wagon UCUF (Vegas)
JoesphMagnus Cigar Blend (DC)
Woodinville (WA)
Very Old Scout Smooth Ambler 14 (WV)
High Wire Jimmy Red Corn (SC)
Mayor Pingree Barrel (MI)
Belle Meade Cask Strength (TN)
Iron root Harbinger (TX)

these hold their own for sure.

They'd have to change their process of making it to call it bourbon.

You've become a damned yankee, trying to convince people that JD is a bourbon. You'll get your mouth smacked if you try to do that down here in person.
JD meets every legal requirement in order to be called bourbon. The only thing different is the charcoal filtering. Filtering is a process that takes things out not add them in. There is no portion of the bourbon laws regarding filtering things out, only adding things. Pretty much all bourbons are filtered in some way, otherwise every bottle would have charred wood bits in it.

It's gotta be in that barrel for a minimum of two years, and the charcoal filtering changes the flavor and color. Both disqualify jack and dickel.
Nope. 2 years in new oak barrels and it can be called “straight” whiskey.

new make/white dog gently touches the sides of a new charred oak barrel on its way to a bottle is bourbon. Technically.

For the few of you pissing at each other about whether JD is bourbon or not, my understanding is that by law JD meets the requirements to call itself bourbon but chooses not to in order to distinguish itself. I think JD is better than a lot of cheap/similar type KY bourbons like Jim Beam. Just me.

Everybody understands that except one person.

It is better than Beam white label. Most everything is.

80 proof, what exactly do you mean they have to change their process?

If their recipe is 51% corn or better it’s a bourbon hoss.

No. No I don’t.

as you are aware, A LOT of Ky bourbons (Especially Rye) is sourced from MGP.

most new distilleries are aging and selling their stuff with sourced MGP juice... they have to to turn a buck until their distillate is ready... (all of which has nothing to do with Kentucky which was the topic).

Smoke Wagon is sourced MGP so listing it as its own, is like listing Down Home or J Mattingly.

I’m well aware of what’s happening with 95% of the products out there

Perhaps YOU do some research. 🙄

I’ve done my Rye research, tell me why I’m wrong listing Whistle Pig? Then I’ll teach you how MGP offers different enzymes/barley mix to make up the other 5% in their 95/5 mashbill.

Thanks for reminding me how much I’ve learned

No, they actually understand it. You can hear it right here straight from the mouth of Jeff Arnett, retired Master Distiller at Jack Daniel's. Fast forward to about 37 minutes and listen.
Nope, they state clearly they are not a bourbon.

Keep bashing your head against the wall. Nothing you say will cause me to change my mind and consider Jack Daniels a bourbon.

It's a Tennessee whiskey.

No effin **** big boy! You don’t need to own a distillery to make a point. Read:

So... when someone asks, ‘what products stand up to Kentucky Bourbon?’ - would you agree that Smoke Wagon, Jos Magnus fit the bill?

these products have NOTHING to do with KY.

derp.

Whistle Pig is RYE. Not bourbon.

"Government, they wrote us a letter, and 1941 that basically says we’ve tasted your product. And we have to agree that you don’t have the character that’s typical of bourbon whiskey. Therefore, if you want to label yourself a Tennessee whiskey, we won’t contest it any longer."
