I like Dan but he makes plenty of money right now. If he starts getting us to the SEC Championship game and BCS bowls then he's definitely earned a nice raise.

of what/who we would lose going with him. We easily could be 8-4 again this year winning the 2 games we should have, that's on him. But does anybody really see a drop off next year? I'm all for keeping him. Consistency, continuity, recruiting, etc.

we could just as easily been 5-7 too if LT doesn't throw a ridiculous INT in the end zone while in FG range toward the end of the game. We were as close to being 10-2 last year (Aub and Ark) as we were to being 8-4 this year. I don't personally believe we were quite as close to being as good as last year as some people do.

But it's also not AS disappointing a season this year as others make out. Couple that with several things: Mullen is a first time head coach, he's still developing as well. Hevesy and Balis among others are gone if he goes. The combined record of teams we lost to was something like 60 - 12 I saw somewhere and LSU and bama accounted for probably 8 of those 12 losses of our opponents. The schedule gets easier next year and I think we're stronger next year, though with the O line concerns probably not as strong as last year. I think consistency and continuity account for a lot, and the loss of institutional memory is more costly than a couple hundred grand this year.

I see Mullen as our best shot at having consistant solid teams in my lifetime. JWS had that potential but it became obvious the NCAA was never going to let that happen. Right now we have a coach who can actually COACH, and has NO baggage attached. We haven't had that since Allen McKeen, if ever. Is Mullen a sure fire thing, of course not. Coaches are ALWAYS a gamble no matter what their previous history. I just see things and situations I have never really seen at MSU, not to this degree. They are almost all positive. It's time to fish or cut bait. Letting Mullen get away because of money, as long as we have the money (and we supposedly do), is cutting bait. I agree with Coach 34 though, I don't think money would keep Mullen from going to PSU if he wants to go.

If Mullen is offered the job and wants it, there's no amount we could pay to keep him. If not, he doesn't deserve a raise this year, butI would extend him one year to get back to the max 4-year contract.

That comes to what?....$450K per win over Mullen's tenure if we lose the MCB.

That's pretty cheapunless youhave some ofthat money allocated for players which we obviously don't.

Other's obviouslly must have a much lower break even point and avery shortmemory.

It's gone from his dream job to a pedophiles wet dream job. He's not smart if he takes it. Let some other poor bastard take it and fail and in 4 years he'll get another shot on the back end (no pun intended) of the scandal. Miles could have had the Michigan job a second time, Mullen will get another shot at it in a much more stable situation than what it is now. I think it's a no-brainer to turn it down now. Risky, but a much better long-term strategy for him personally.

if money is the only thing that would make him leave. We have a great future with Mullen, this season notwithstanding (remember our competitors in the West). And head coaches' salaries are still going up, especially in the SEC and it looks like the Big 10 is trying to catch up with us. North of 3 isn't that big a raise anyway, relatively speaking (most of us here would take the differential and retire though).

but that 2-16 record needs to be 9-9 and that will be the last raise for DM for awhile. Wilson deserves the raise the most.

or at least the Bulldgog Club would. They have set money aside and can fund a higher salary for Mullen without any problem. I would pay him to stay.
