Would you rather be the ‘R’ or the ‘U’ during the cheer?

Oh, please. Since Day 1 RU fans have fumbled this cheer badly. Your question is very inappropriate inasmuch as there is so little separation between the R and the U .
This cheer would be 1000 times better if the "U" response was delayed 5 seconds. So much more powerful. Its just a mess.
Agreed not a race. When cheer done correctly it is an ominous, echoing phenomena.
Cheer should be going across the stadium from east to westversus generated from south(student section)to rest.
I would rather be the guy listening to the long silent pause between the R and the U. Maybe someday we will get it right again. It's beeen many years since it was done the "correct" way.

The pace increased mid 2000's. But the pause died out when they enclosed the stadium and moved students to the end zone.
I havent remembered it being good since before the stadium rebuild in the early 90's but maybe it was just a slow decline. Definitely got worse when the students were seated exclusivley in the end zone. Was more naturally a delay when it was one side of the field replying to the opposite side.
When students with ADHD began to outnumber those without. They show them how to do it properly during pregame. Then 15 mins into the game forget how they were just shown.
it needs a 1 second spot between the two and the R needs 2 seconds and the U needs 4-5

So. Everybody (or almost everybody) feels the same way. Problem is…. even when people like Hobbs get the chant going before a football game, these leaders with the mic are having people do it r u r u r u , quick quick quick.
Somebody has to pull some video or audio of it being much slower and get it to Hobbs with some explanation.

The 06 Ville game needs to be played at every orientation as well to any employee involved in this…

The chant was ruined by the student section when schiano first got here in the early 2000s. Attempts were made to slow it down, mainly by cheerleaders, but people didn’t pay attention. The whole thing could have been solved if schiano took a mic during a game and told fans to slow it down and put a pause between it. It will never get fixed. Too bad. The best I heard it was the game against WVU in 1998, shea’s best season that brought some really good games with actual significance at the end of the year.
That's because all the U people wanted to be the R people, who go first. They think the cheer is UUUuuuuu RRRrrrrrr
Back in the mid-2000's, @CELLBLOCKR used to hold R-U chant practices on Thursday nights before a game. We need to get those back. 
And since we can't move the students, they should divide the student sections so half are "R" (west side due to band being there and could lead the chant) and the other side "U" (east side). I think this would help to get the side to side chant back. It would still be too fast since the students have no control but I think would be much better than today.

Great thread. We have trolls who constantly post outrageous predictions to get attention, and then we have guys like Plum who consistently post at the next level.

Disagree. The “R” is too truncated. It should be a long rolling R, followed by a pause, followed by an equally long rolling You. The version shown here is too rapid.
The pause died out when people started using twitter regularly. If one cannot convey one's thought, be it "R" or "U", in under a half-second, one is totally worthless in today's fast paced 24/7 world.

To be honest, I think this might just be the best thread, so far, of 2023. It highlights the sometimes hysterical levels of seriousness with which we fans will discuss a game.
A faux serious argument about if R or U is better to chant is hilarious.

That's way too fast. But based on your son's time there, is one of the better ones. I need to find one from the 90's. I recall a good on out there.
I think the major point is that the U just has to be carried longer than the R - right now, as we all joke, is it rururururu or is it urururururur
I'm not sure a myth can be a legend only one person believes it. Pretty sure it doesn't work that way.
So if something is growing on you, well, we really don't want to know about it.

Completely agree. I'm Class of '09 and the best it sounded in my 4 years was in '05 with 35K in the building. The '06 season is when it started to come undone a bit.Definitely after Class of 2006 left. We still did it right
