Would you rather have Liggins or Wallace?

I know that Wallace just committed to Ole Miss and we may not get Liggins as well. I wanted Wallace pretty bad. His numbers are sick. I hate that he did not go to us, but I think he will be a better fit at Ole Miss. I've talked with a few state fans who seem to think Liggins would be a much better fit in our system (Relf version 2.0).

but I see he's about 300lbs now. Is he the Pillsbury Throwboy Part Two, or will he be moved to TE/DE as I saw some mention?

I would love a huge QB no one could tackle, for the record.

Wallace was set to be a walk on that signed with Arkansas State out of HS.

I agree Liggins fits what we want to do more, but he's going to be a tough swing. Let Dan handle this one - I think he knows what he's doing ;)

We would leave him at QB next year regardless because of our depth issues.

Long term - who knows.

is he willing to give up on qb? Will we let him play qb? can balis get him down to 235-240 by just being on his plan? You have to think he would drop some with thechange from high school workouts to Balis. I have not seen him play, but for some reason I think Dante Culpepper at UCF. Culpepper was listed at 6'4" 240 when he played there according to their web roster.

would dan allow him to stay at qb and is that enough to get him to sign with us?

I would say Liggins for the simple fact we'd likely be able to get something out of him even if it wasn't at QB. From all accounts, he is a very good athlete and could help out at several other positions if QB didn't work out for him. Wallace, IMO, wasn't likely to challenge for a starting spot so you are looking at a guy that will likely be in a backup role for three years. I'd be more inclined to have Liggins as the 3rd QB next year and then evaluating his future at that position. That would give us next year to sign a QB or two. Seems Mullen is already after Cord Sandberg for 2013.

I'd say split the differance, around 275. I'd take either of the QBs in that game. Liggens is a bigger Relf in the running game. They didn't throw it a lot in that game but when they did he threw a nice ball, nice tight spiral every time. Williams is very accurate, very smart with his throws, and can handle pressure and still pass the ball. He is tall enough but is on the slim side.

I might rather have Forrest Williams walk on and be able to sign another one of our "possible players left" than sign either Wallace or Liggins. What if R. Brown AND B.Brown AND Moore AND A.J. Jefferson AND Chance Allen all want to sign with State? All of those guys are more likely contributors than a third string QB.<div>

Here's how I spin losing Wallace: without him itsolidifies Russell as the starter with a few snaps going to Dak. I think it helps Russell confidence over the next 8 months to know he's going to be the guy --- no more splitting time with Relf and Favre, Mullen avoiding questions of who the starter will be each week, we'll see who does the best in practice this week, etc, etc.

Wallace had impressive stats, but Ihate rotation at the QB position. It's one thing to have the 2nd string guy come in for a few snaps and plays designed specifically for him, but this past season was unbearable at times. I'm ready to put the load onRussell and see what he can do.

Liggins gives us extra depth in case Russell or Dak gets injured and he can move to DL if Mullen later decides QB isn't the place for him. Ideally he will redshirt this year and have 4 years to play either position.</p>

He may be a good player but he isn't in the same conversation as liggins. I am not sure I can follow the logic of: walk on qb > one with real scholly offers. Then like people have said if Liggins doesn't pan out at qb he would be a monster on the dline and wouldn't be undersized like Jefferson would be.

to be successful passing against the Bama's, LSU's and Arky's becuase that's the only way we're going to be able to move the ball against them.

So, do the Bears still try to sign Liggins as a QB?

Roster has:

Barry Brunetti

Zack Stoudt

Randall Mackey

Evan Ingram

Robert Ratliff

Current commits:

Mikhail Miller

CJ Beathard

Bo Wallace

Jeremy Liggins

Thats ~ 9 possible QBs (less 2 w/os + any departures) ... Wallace left Ark St 'cause he didn't get any work ... what is Bucky's plan for this group?
