Even without knowing what Brewster's history with recruiting/position coaching is like, I will have to agree. I have not been impressed at all with our WR development under Mirando.

Did you read any of the linked article? Just that he was a decent HC at the Univ of Minn, and a NFL assistant.

He was one of Mack Brown's key recruiters at UNC and Texas, then spent some time in the NFL. Got the Minnesota job based on recruiting chops, despite never even being a coordinator. He sorta improved the talent but seemed like he was in over his head. As patdog said, huge upgrade.

I did. It didn't tell me much. Wanted a Bulldog perspective. Wondering what he'll bring to the SEC since he's a Yankee! Wondering what recruits down here would think. Wondering about his WR coaching ability.

Did you miss the part about coaching at UNC & Texas with Mack Brown, San Diego with Shottenheimer (who is a better coach than he's given credit for) and Denver with Shanahan? That's a very impressive resume for a position coach.

Honestly, this looks like an outstanding hire and an upgrade. Now if we can just get Smoot on staff somehow.

Exactly...

Homerun hire for this point in the process. He was a good enough recruiter that he was given the Minnesota head job without ever even being a coordinator(Orgeronesque). Nevermind his NFL pedigree. That's really all I need to know to see that this is an overall upgrade from Mirando, at least from an experience and pedigree standpoint...

With the state of Texas perhaps more open due to the addition of TAMU, Brewster's experience there could be especially good for us. Still want Smoot and/or Moulds on the staff someday, but, if true, this looks looks like a gift from the football gods.

Just hoping this isn't a 4-month temporary hire. With his resume, I'm really not sure why somebody didn't snap him up as an offensive coordinator when Minnesota let him go.

If true.....

This is a MASSIVE upgrade for us. We get a legit WR coach with a history of successful WRs and a top national recruiter. We also get a coach who has solid NFL connections, something we don't have currently. Big, big win if this is accurate. Hopefully Bob, Paul, Wardlaw, Marcello, or Locke confirm it soon. Absolute homerun for Mullen to convince a guy with Brewster's cred to come here.

Maybe we can move him to TE

I've never been impressed with Stallash or whatever his name is. Maybe we can move Brewster to TE's and hire another WR coach for next year

Well, Mullen did tell the media yesterday (or was it Tuesday?) that the short-term plan might also be the long-term plan. That would lead me to believe this isn't a 4-month rental hire. Of course, if the guy gets the opportunity to move up and be an OC, would anyone blame him for leaving? I know I wouldn't. Either way, I see this as a win for us right now. If nothing else, it will take some of the extra pressure off the staff, and Mullen in particular, with a WR coach on board.

Saw him this summer in Jackson for the Extravaganza, but not sure where he lives or what he does now.

Legit question--why are you unimpressed with Sallach? While I have typically thought of him as Mullen's nepotism hire, I don't really know that much about him. We get pretty good TE play from what I can tell. I don't have any evidence that he's bad, per se. If you just mean that he's unimpressive relative to the rest of the staff, then I'm probably with you.

That's the thing... his career path could be considered quite similar to Orgeron(outside of his time spent in the NFL). He has never been a OC at any stop, although I could see him getting the opportunity in the near future.

IMO, we are going to get better receiver play this year than we've had in the past(and would have regardless). Then, Mullen offers him the "co-OC" position similar to the one Collins has on the defensive side(and Wilson before him). This could maybe be enough to lock him in for awhile...

The best example is probably Hudspeth as "Passing Game Coordinator." Methinks Brewster will get a similar title and role if it will help keep him around for a while. And if it doesn't, so be it.
