Sounds like little brother knows his place. Losing the Egg Bowl and finishing behind MSU in the SEC is good enough for a raise and extension.

Hugh probably needed that extra cheese. Recruits and drunken parties with loose women don't pay for themselves.

Well, they did have sense enough to raise assistant staff by 400k

The salary race in the conference is really starting to get crazy. In less than 10 years I wouldn't be surprised to see a $10M salary.

Just like having a large mortgage payment doesn't make you rich, paying your coach a lot doesn't make him good.

I'm fine with keeping Mullen at his current level and terms. No need to give him a raise or extension.

Dear God. I mean, how hard do you get every time you type that? Surprised you haven't passed out from blood loss.

Does this lower our expectations for next year since we're not as high on the pay list? It lowers our national position level by 2 spots, since everybody is obsessed with paying a "top x" salary and not finishing at that level.

Bingo

Our head coach is paid quite well. He is paid at a level above his achievement level thus far. If we have extra money to throw at our coaches, it needs to be an extra 750k to our coordinators and assistants. Oh, perhaps a special teams coach also. Mullen is paid more than fairly. And besides, isn't he already due for two more years of automatic salary increases, results be damned? I think I recall Stricklin announcing a four year contract extension that over the life of the contract was going to push DM near the 3million mark as an average. Maybe someone smarter than me can remember or investigate the details of that contract. Seems as if Dan should be in year 2 of that 4 year agreement.

Can't speak on terms, but I think you're right. Staggered contracts seem to be the most popular now. Brees made $40m last year, but his average over 5 years is $20m/yr.

he reminds me of Jimmy Swaggart, but with bigger teeth.

After Malzahn's extension, Mullen now 13th in coaching salary.

This just reinterates what the bears have been saying for 2 weeks

The Egg Bowl is completely meaningless to them.
