"If they're keeping score, you want to win, right?" running backs coach Curtis Luper asked rhetorically last February when he said his goal was to sign the nation's top recruiting class.

but make no mistake, a class rated that high will make some noise at some point in the future - see Ole Miss 2006. Actually looks very similar, the JUCO hotshot QB, alot of highly rated area players with a few big name out of staters. The X-factor is Malzahn, hopefully somebody gets his *** outta there quickly.

needing time to get going in recruiting. Of course it does help that Chizik was at AU as an assistant. Also, I think the purse strings are being opened up at Auburn because they are not going to sit idly by and cede total football dominance to Saban and Bama. Of course my theory is that under the protection of Slive most all of the SEC purse strings are opening up around the SEC. I think the NCAA hanging out in the SEC under Kramer had slowed things down for a while.

I think the days of SEC members costing the SEC revenue by turning in other SEC schools is over. I don't think this is good for MSU or UM. When nobody is sure how far is too far (but whatever it is is within everybody's budget), they can compete in recruiting by being aggressive. Once "too far" is clearly more than UM or MSU can consistently afford, it's going to be bad.

as before in the late 90's. If we join in the "blood bath" as it looks like Auburn is doing, then it will benefit only the players who get the "rewards" and we'll have to deal with being that lower conference member(that doesn' have that "rich" tradition") that they'll throw under the bus, as they did in the 90's and 70's.

Yes, Slive is a puppet now to ESPN and will have to do what they say. And that says get the money teams in a position to make us some dang money.

My prediction is that the conference will implode in 2 years from all of this. I just pray that we aren't the stick of dynamite!
