That could explain why Herbstreit has backed away from his support for them on tv lately. Seems like something is going to go down and we (John Bond) is being proactive in it to make damn sure he doesn't get implicated.

I love it................. It is gonna be really fun watching how this unfolds, but I dont think we will catch much flak from it. Most teams hate Auburn and Newton right now so lets have fun.

In that one, everyone and their mother was offering cash. While only Alabama got punished, the other schools involved looked bad.<div>
</div><div>Yeah, it's different since we didn't offer money to Newton, but the sooner we get this out there the better we look.</div>

saying this is actually bigger than just camburglar. AU's 10 class was full of WTFs. Dyer, Lemonier, Reed. ********.

NYT dude tweeted that there is documented evidence that Kenny Rogers shared a bank account with NFL agent Ian Greengross. So, this is really starting to take on a Reggie Bush feel with agents and payola. Getting even more interesting.

One second that dude at the airport is shouting 5-19!...5-19!... And the next Chizik is kicking down the door of 5* prospects and hauling their asses to the Plains.

Well... AU knew of the allegations and still played the Mule. Either they're clean or extra stupid.

is there anyone in college football who didn't think this guy was cheating? I mean, it's Auburn. It's not like a big national powerhouse or anything. And this guy has no history of being a good coach. I honestly believe Auburn brought him in because he WOULD cheat. They just couldn't take Bama getting another national title. They jumped the shark.

He was brought in to keep his mouth shut and keep his eyes averted. Trooper and Luper and pat dye worked the telethon. No way was dye going to sit by and watch bama reclaim prominence.

If I remember correctly, they ran off Tommy Tuberville- a guy who once went 13-0 there mind you- and had Bobby Lowder, their BIG cigar boy who basically had been trying to get rid of Tuberville for years, and forced Tuberville to bring in Tony Franklin which turned into a disaster.

I mean, what coach is going to want to:

1. Follow a very successful coach.

2. Also take the job knowing that you're going to have to deal with Bobby Lowder

3. Take the job knowing that you may have to hire staff that may not fit what you want to do.

The answer is a guy at Iowa State that was going nowhere named Gene Chizek, of course. It didn't help that Charles Barkley bitched about Turner Gill not getting hired either, even though Gill sucks as well.

I mean, they want me to believe that this guy had no clue at Iowa State and all of a sudden he goes to Auburn and figures it all out?

yes, they were in Jackson today at Clarion Ledger HQ. Got a source and will have more tomorrow. All I have been told as of tonight is that Mullen was also approached by Rogers on a separate occasion, before he approached Bond. The first figure was less than the Bond one. More like $100,000. Bond talked today because all of the other major news sources were about to break the story. Veazy is livid because he was going to release this evening or tomorrow and Bond took his chance and possible payday from ESPN... I will update when I get more news tomorrow.

he was posting on marcellos blog very soon after this story broke loose on espn. Understandably so though marcello was keeping tabs on Nick Bell's memorial so that could have been reason for veazey posting

That is one super talented dude that got half way laid off by the CL today (heard several got laid off and Marshall got demoted to part time status). I hate the CL. Its been reduced to a skeleton crew that publishes barely enough local hints of news to call itself a local newspaper.

Where this thing will really get fun is that Bobby Lowder lost most of his families fortune in the banking collapse over the last few years so there is no bailout plan.....Short version, the guy pulling the strings for the last 20 years no longer has the checkbook to pull em, so there is no leader in place at AU...Could be a full blown train wreck in its finest form here....

It was going to be a landslide Heisman trophy presentation. Now that's basically over. With the Reggie Bush thing this past year, where he had to give back his Heisman, Newton's Heisman chances are probably less than Chris Relf's today.

In the end, it'll mean Newton is in the NFL draft this year, and after a one year run at glory, Auburn will be back to mediocre overnight.
