pretty hard on ole Huggs, aren't youthey have no leadership....will be a quick tourney experience if they don't figure it out
some of it is on coaches and some on the players.......foul shooting isn't on the coaches but substitution patterns aren't on the players......Huggs isn't beyond criticismpretty hard on ole Huggs, aren't you
I'm not sure they even make the dance at this point... I know ISU is bad but the road is unkind to WVU.they have no leadership....will be a quick tourney experience if they don't figure it out
Agree....still a lot of politics in that back room!If ... IF WVU drops the next 3 games and some how stays up in the NET ranking, how can anyone on the selection committee pick a team that is 1-12 it’s last 13 games (or whatever it is)? The selection committee would certainly be ripped a new one. And justifiably so.
Huggins and Lyons don't get enough credit for something that they do really well: They are masterful at OOC scheduling. WVU schedules a lot of mid-majors expected to do well in their conferences, so that its computer rankings (think the NET, RPI, KenPom, Sagarin, etc.) don't take a hit, but its chance of losing these games when its team is at least pretty good is really low. WVU's current NET ranking of No. 21 would make WVU a lock for the NCAA Tournament, if the season were to end today. Moreover, even if it were to lose out, which is unlikely, then WVU would likely still have a NET ranking high enough to make the Dance. NET No. 16 Ohio State is easily WVU's best win, but WVU's NET ranking remains high because schools like UNI, Rhode Island, and Wichita State are ranked no worse than No. 51.If ... Seems like it's been a successful strategy for years...lay in at home in November and December and play .500 in conference and get into the dance.Huggins and Lyons don't get enough credit for something that they do really well: They are masterful at OOC scheduling. 3 guard lineup seems to be working out much better for them. depth could potentially become an issue, particularly come B1G tournament next week, but that's usually an issue for all teams who win and have to play day after day. Shouldn't be all that big of a deal in the big dance though, since you at least get a day off in between games. As usual, it all comes down to particular matchups, as well as who happens to get knocked off/upset before you're scheduled to meet them. This year is pretty wide open though, so brackets are going to be very difficult to pick.I want another shot at WVU in the Round of 32. Ohio State is playing extremely hard with a lot of confidence right now. WVU is celebrating a narrow win over 12-18 Iowa State. It's a long season.
I'd love to have two tickets at mid court for the Big 10 tourny...every game should be a barnburner!Yep, I expect the lack of depth to burn the Buckeyes in the B1G Tournament. They basically played six guys last night, and that won't cut it when you have to play on consecutive days. I just loved their energy. Brad Underwood is a tHuggs disciple, but Ohio State dominated its offensive glass and "out toughed" Illinois in the second half. That's how you beat a team like that. Steal their lunch money.
we were talking about the tournament earlier this morning, and Michigan may end up playing Rutgers first round, which will be a rough game, especially since Michigan has beaten them twice in the last two or three weeks. We were discussing if we won, who we would rather play in the quarterfinals, i.e., Maryland, Michigan State, Wisconsin, etc., and we ultimately said it really doesn't matter who you play, as it's going to be a tough game all the way through. There's a dozen teams that could win this tournament, so it probably all depends on who wants it the most. Teams like Purdue and Indiana may need to win the tournament to get in, or at least advance to the title game to stand a chance. Purdue more so than Indiana. But, you're right, a few minute stretch of bad play, and you're likely done. I actually have said for the last two months that the B1G tournament may be more exciting than the big dance. Obviously, less on the line, but it should be a good one. There are two bad teams in the B1G: Nebraska and Northwestern. Against every other team, you'd better bring it, or your team will exit the B1G tourney toot sweet.
