Wright Thompson has an amazing article on Johnny Manziel...

The relentless, 50 headed beast known as pop culture, claims another unprepared, immature idiot. Never had boundaries. Never been told no. Somebody should loose another 17n cat in the middle of a busy street so he can perform heroics for his fans.

Funniest part is TexAgs.com banned Manziel's dad from their board - not once but twice. He used someone else's account the 2nd time.

That's about what I figured. Hope that punk fall flat on his face this fall. Not really counting on it, but I do think there's a decent chance.

So the TexAgs message boards banned Johnny Manziel's dad twice. Interesting.

Money is not an issue

I live in a fish bowl, and I have a lot of maturing to do.

I'm really a good guy, but I'm not handling all of this very well.

I'm a 20 year old kid.

Sincerely.
Johnny Football.

If Johnny Football is allowed to infiltrate this world, then Johnathan Manziel will cease to exist. You see, right now we have Johnny Football, but there is also Johnathan Manziel - - Small-Town-Kid-Manziel, Heisman-Pajama-Bro-Party-Manziel, Tickling-His-Gammie-Manziel, Green-Bean-In-His-Nose-Manziel. If Johnny Football walks through this door, he will kill Johnathan Manziel. A Manziel, divided against itself, cannot stand.

Skipping out on the therapy sounds like a bad idea.

The Manziel family sounds like it has some issues. Paul sounds paranoid or narcissistic and has daddy issues. Johnny obviously has some anger issues and is already turning to the boozing to get through it. They all need to nip this in the bud before it gets worse. The more these cats blow up and blame others, the more negative attention they are going to get. I'm sure it's hard to adapt to the sudden fame, but they act like it's never happened to anyone before. Time to stop blaming stuff on other folks and to start dealing with their own issues.

I don't understand the relationship with the school. It seems like they hate each other, which I think is odd

If Jett Rink was a character in Friday Night Lights

that's the impression we get of Jonathan Manziel/JFF.

Using this corollary, does this mean Goat is Kevin Fant's dad or something?

"Paul also had the usual half-dozen items for his son to sign, things given to him by family friends or mailed to the car dealership he runs."

Is dear ol dad, who hates that the world is getting rich off his boy Johnny, using the signatures at the car dealership to help sales? Isn't that a violation of the NCAA?

He will be fine on the field. He finds release in football and will be just fine

like any other great athlete. You'd be surprised how many great professional athletes have issues that are never seen. Most just dont reach Johnny's level of stardom at such a young age. How many of you on here would be able to handle a situation like this properly? He went from an unknown to top of the college football world in less than 6 months. Who is ready to handle that at 19/20?

Once he puts those pads and uniform on and steps onto the field, he will transform back to the elusive, crazy legged, play making QB he was last year. Don't count him out just yet.

So, Mom and Dad are first-order douchensteins that want to be attention whores in their own way. This kid should get "NoTebow" on his jersey. He really, really makes you loathe him. I tell all the Aggies that work for me that I'm expecting to see him sporting a Longhorn logo one of these days. It would be fitting.

Manziel had problems in Tyler

and that's why the family moved to Kerrville. The family is indeed loaded (and yes, there are rumors of mafia involvement three or more generations back, although those are indeed "rumors"), so it was no job that took daddy Paul away from Tyler. There were issues.

Johnny Manziel is a heck of a QB and fun to watch on the football field. He does have his demons though, and I don't see this ending well at all. Lack of maturity combined with a sense of entitlement do not mix well with constant media attention. I hope we don't have to witness the train wreck. For the kid's own sake, he needs to find a safe exit.

So the poor kid is so stressed over the publicity he's receiving... that he & his dad allow an ESPN reporter unlimited access to write a story like this?

Oh come on. I hope we do see a train wreck. They're fun to watch when they happen to douchebags who bring it on themselves.

It was obvious from reading the article that Wright Thompson has to have had a previous relationship with the family. He was obviously granted "unprecedented access" so that he could write a fluff piece blaming everyone except Johnny and his family.

They're obviously the victims here.**

Very good article. You don't see many like these anymore. People gripe and complain about articles that are this long(b/c our attention span is about this ...... long), but the substance is very intriguing(sp?). I read a long article last week about NASCAR's France family. Very similar in style as to how the writer really pours their perspective into the writing, as opposed to giving unwanted opinions.

But in regards to Manziel, I genuinely have some remorse for the guy and his situation because of the turn his life has taken, skyrocketing into fame, in the last 18 months. However, I don't necessarily sympathize with the "he's only 20 years old" jargin. I can think of many situations other 20 years old face that incur much more pressure and go undocumented everyday. The guy just needs to grow up mentally and surround himself with people that he can trust. And to some extent, the article has me questioning if his family and the university should be those people.

SI's Andy Staples just wrote a piece on Manziel as well. Someone made a good point about Manziel - for someone that is getting tired of the media attention - two national stories sure isn't aiding the matter.

Agreed. It's a long article, but mostly because we're used to reading a few paragraphs and that's all we can focus on.

I feel bad for him in the same way I feel a little bad for Renardo Sidney. I know people hated that kid, and I don't deny that he was a lazy kid that felt entitled to everything without putting in any work. And he wasn't that great of a player because of it. BUT, I do feel somewhat bad because it seems his family pimped him out at a young age and let him develop that sense of entitlement. Point blank, that kid was so immature at 18-19 that he couldn't handle being in the environment he was in. I was okay with Stans keeping him to try and change the attitude. But at the end of the day, you have to want to help yourself.

I see both sides of both, I guess. I feel bad for them, but at the end of the day, they're going to have to grow up or risk the bad that goes along with not being able to handle themselves appropriately. Growing up isn't easy for anyone.

Cliff Notes version ...

Father, like son, has extreme anger management issues and while dad seems to have some of his under a modicum of control, junior is a 17'n ‘ticking time bomb’ and it is not a question of ‘if’ he will go off (again), it’s only a matter of 'when.' </SPAN>

don't know johnny. word on the skreet is his father has a mobbish background. *Check that....the mobbish background is faux. window dressing. They are.........drum roll......lebanese not italian.

Paul Manziel owns an unknown amount of large commercial properties in Tyler. I am talking the neighborhood of minimum $25,000 a month per property. Plus oil production interests, plus old family money, plus land ownership/sales/subdivsions/development.

I understand why JFF was getting pissed. Hollytree CC is hard.

I feel for him also having to grow up rich and that being the root to all his behavior problems. What a shame poor guy! (no pun intended) When I read the article I was thinking of this the whole time.
