My guess is that they are there because they can be. I don't blame them. If I could swing tickets for all these events and had the money to set off wherever I wanted to go, I'd do it too.

If you were as into sports as they obviously are, then there really isn't any other event going on tonight that would be bigger than Duke-UNC. I'm sure Cut got them the tickets. Duke-UNC, especially at Cameron, is probably one of the top sporting events, and the top college bball sporting event, so I can understand wanting to go to the game.
