The crappy part is this: How does MSU, or any university, prevent this from happening? They can't. Any punishment should be directed upstream to the agents/financial advisors, etc. Be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Valid or not, that story is so poorly written, it made my head want to explode. Seriously, what do journalism schools teach these days?

3 schools are named

Two of them say nothing, but guess which school starts issuing statements.

Bumphis says "don't take the money!"

[h=1]Mississippi State WR Chad Bumphis doesn’t think you should take the money[/h][h=2]by Adam B • February 5, 2013 • 1 Comment[/h]Having just completed his senior season in Starkville, Mississippi State WR Chad Bumphis took to twitter to dispense some unsolicited advice to recruits just ahead of national signing day. During his recruitment, Bumphis received offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, and Oklahoma, so he’s well aware of what a difficult choice this can be. The only problem is that fans of certain teams took exception with a couple of Bumphis’ characterizations of the recruiting process.
Bumphis started his lecture innocently enough:

When asked if Bumphis was implying that Mississippi State had paid him, he clarified:

Things really took off after Bumphis passive aggressively engaged some rival Ole Miss fans, who had filled his mentions column.

Given that Ole Miss is having the best recruiting season in quite some time (possibly in the history of the school), it’s easy to see why they may be overly sensitive to implications of impropriety. At the same time, Bumphis never mentioned any school by name, and never even alluded to any school in even the vaguest of terms. Just goes to show that on the eve of the biggest day in program history, some Ole Miss fans are on high alert.

That was my fist thought as well

Us releasing any type of statement to yahoo isn't going to help things. Best to just shut up.

One of the theories about why the NCAA didn't go after Manziel was that he was just the tip of the pay-for-autographs iceberg. If they had suspended Manziel, they would have to suspend Clowney and other stars as well.

How willing is the NCAA to erase the entire seasons of 3 teams, including a national title?

I swear, if anything comes of this, I am just going to say "17 it" and give up on MSU sports because it would show that the deck is so stacked against us that the entire program is an exercise in futility.

Auburn gets away with Cecil and Cam, TAMU gets away with Manziel, Ole Miss gets away with God knows what, and we get rung up over the most petty uncontrollable **** imaginable.

So damn sick of this garbage I could scream.

True. Have an Aggie co-worker who knows some big-money boosters. He told me that if the NCAA went after Manziel, Texas A&M has some very wealthy, powerful lawyers who'll spill the beans on at least 6 other big-time football players.

There truly is no way for schools to police this sort of thing.

I would imagine Big Dan's official record as a head coach is about to change. Who gives a **** in the grand scheme of things. As long as we don't get crushed with scholarship losses, forfeiting wins isn't a big deal IMO.

Lawyer up, deny everything, and point to the east and say, "We're with them." We good.

I just read most of the article. It was very detailed.

Think we'll have to forfeit the 5 losses from last year? ....

True, and the Alabama player was sort of the ring leader. But ... we'll probably accept, or get, the fall and Alabama will get away scott free. The fact that we're already on probation won't help one bit ... could be pretty serious.

This has turned childish. Yahoo, espn, and SI are flinging **** at the wall and are hoping something sticks.

With that said, if something does stick, Murphy (and Bracky) will make sure it's ours.

9/11/13 - We Will Remember

Thanks for the irony, Yahoo. Surely there will come a time when the NCAA decides punishing an entire university and their loyal fanbase for something so trivial does more harm than good. However, I'm not sure that time will come unless a school not named "Miss. State" is on the block.

I can't take anyone seriously who rambles about the NCAA being a closed market and doesn't mention the NFL... the group of 32 organizations that together collude against 18-22 year olds effectively forcing them into the college meat market.

They just updated the story. You can add Mark Barron and everyone's favorite Thorpe Award winner, J. Banks, to the list of players implicated.

Hell Bracky has probably called a freight company and is currently readying all filing cabinets and athletic department computers for shipment to Indianapolis. Can we get Steve and Gene to start digging for anything else we need to report also?
