I seen an article on twitter, I think from maroon and white nation, suggesting the price of water should have been lowered yesterday. My wife and I bought 3 bottles of water and one powerade because they were out of water at halftime. We spent $19 on all of it.

Normally I'm not one to suggest or expect prices to be lowered but considering the circumstances yesterday, I think it would have been the right thing to do. I'm not asking anyone to take a loss on anything but $2 a water rather than $4 would have been nice.

No doubt that could help too. We didn't leave until there was about 5 minutes left in the game. If we had brought my daughter no way we would have made it that long. It's hard for me get upset with anyone that left yesterday.

Why not buy one bottle and re-fill it in the bathroom sink? I know it's lukewarm and not as tasty as design water, but it's wet and it's free.

There's one infamous overheated stadium situation where tap water wasn't free.

And does anybody else remember the unbearably hot Memphis 2001 game? They let people bring in coolers with unopened water bottles in them. And frankly, there's no excuse for losing a common-sense-off with the freaking Liberty Bowl event staff.

(and I was wondering when the "the free market would dictate that you should sell it for more when it's hotter" folks would show up to the thread)

If you can't afford a few bottles of water then maybe you should stay at home and drink from the tap.

I'm sure that is the point of view the athletic department took, obviously. However, that also led to the 2nd half probably having about 30,000 seats in the stadium. Like I said, I stayed and bought the water, I'm just opening it for discussion. If I were calling the shots yesterday, I would have cut the water price in half. I think that keeps more people in the stands yesterday. Just my opinion though.

Per twitters... Aramark sets the price of concessions. Strick says he'll meet w/ them to adjust for future issues.

Just imagine how much money was made on water yesterday. If every person bought one bottle - that's over $200,000.

50,000 bottles of water from walmart would cost less than $10,000.

Better yet, 50,000 bottles out of the tap would cost about $20

50,000 bottles equals about 6,250 gallons at say $3.00 per thousand equals about $20

An ******* mentality to take for sure. And some people wonder why attendance with the students is bad. These guys can go sit in AC and watch the game in HD. And yesterday they could have went to a bar and had beer for the same price as a bottle of water. Hard choice for a student huh? Hell I considered that about halftime.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to put a few Gatorade coolers full of ice water with a stack of cups at each ramp.

Pouring water out

I agree. At the gates prior to the game I saw security forcing and older woman to pour out the bottle of water she had in her hands. Clearly greed has prevailed over ensuring spectator safety. With yesterday's conditions a little latitude would have been classy. I bought a bottle of water $4. Ok, I can live with that. I wanted a cup of ice to go with it. $5. No way I was going to do that and yeah I could afford it. At some point principle should prevail.

For as nice as the new part of the stadium is, for the average fan on the east side, little has changed. I get that they spent the money they did in the way they did. Fully supported it. Hopefully soon some things can be done to improve the east side under the stadium.

With temps in the 90's, there should have been some accommodations made. Opportunity missed.

Would have been money very well spent if one of the companies that advertises on the Jumbotrons bought water through Aramark and gave it away at the end of the first quarter through half time. Negotiate a cheaper price of course.

I try not to be very judgmental as a parent and what others do but if you've got a baby under a year old in the stands during that game you have issues. Saw at least a dozen babies in the stadium yesterday. No excuse for that. Just stay home or at least somewhere cooler.

I've never been to a sporting event where concessions were marked down unless it was a promotional event. 100 degrees or 10 degrees, doesn't matter. The prices are also on the low end of the price range compared to other sporting events I've attended.

If there's another day game in 90+ weather come prepared in order to stay cool and hydrated. Don't rely on the school or anyone else to do it for you.

The worst thing of all is that if you have a bottle of water in your hand or your wife has one in her purse while walking in, they'll make you toss it before entering. It's absurd

I think you're right and honestly I'm not expecting anything to change. Aramark has no reason to lower the price. The university could cover the cost but I don't think that is wise. To me, best thing would be for people to be allowed to bring in 1 or 2 bottles on days when it is that hot.

Both Aramark and the university have the right to change nothing, but people also have the right to stay home and watch it. And judging by yesterday's crowd after halftime, I'd say a lot of people went home to watch it.

It was just poor planning by Stricklin and Aramark, which doesn't surprise me on either account. If they ran out of water at halftime with 4 dollar water, when would they have run out with 2 buck water. In the first quarter?

It's just like the fools that have a white out at night and then have a maroon out in the afternoon. Whoever thought of that should be fired.

Remember those temperatures the weather service gives out every hour are shade temps. The temperature in the sun yesterday was probably 120 or higher.

They got more water. And I'm sure they were not out at ever concession. They were just out at the one under section 20 at halftime.

Maybe the complain and expect a handout mentality makes me an *******.

Just like the thread on here not too long ago where someone was complaining about prices of hotels on game day. I believe a few were talking about how it was price gouging and they should be made to lower the price.

If people quit paying $4 for water then the price will go down. Until then don't expect them to drop the price just because you were hot. Aramark was probably celebrating the heat not trying to cut anyone a deal because of it.

I bought 2 extra diet cokes and had to break into the "emergency flask". Stayed in seat the whole time. Wore a sun hat and upf50 long sleeve shirt. Wife and kids went into the shade after halftime. I have white hair, not blue. It was HOT but we expected it to be and planned accordingly. Some of you act like you were surprised by the heat??!!!

The Atlanta braves will allow you take a small cooler in turner field and they have cool spots. Surely if the greedy mlb can accommodate their fans a little then miss state can do the same

we brought 9 month old with every intention of taking him to the game. Went to the walk through and decided that he and my wife would stay at the tailgate. It was brutal out there. Glad we don't have another home game until October.

I don't think anyone in this thread is asking for a handout. I'm simply pointing a problem that should be looked in to.

I can tell you think there is absolutely no problem with attendance around the country. HD has made it very nice to sit at home and watch the game. Sporting events all over the place are making changes to make the in game experience better. And if you don't think something like this is a problem here you got your head in the sand. We had at a minimum 10,000 leave at halftime of a 2 point game.

I had the pleasure of sitting in the student section for the previous 5 years. I cooped for a year and was fortunate to call myself an undergraduate student at Mississippi State. I think I missed two home games in five years, and constantly complained and heard others ***** about students failing to remain in the student section for four quarters. Now, let me help you understand my point. Not everyone is as privileged as you are. As a student, I was able to pay for several $4 water bottles on a few miserably hot day games at DWS, even some night ones, so I could stay energized for four quarters, but there were plenty around me that decided after a quarter or two of sweating that four dollars was too much for water. They, as you so kindly put, decided it was time to return to their homes and drink water from the tap because their budgets didn't have 4, 8, or even 12 dollars allotted for water at one football game. So as a result, our stadium isn't filling up, our fans aren't as energetic, and our student section is leaving early. When you look across the stadium and see it emptying out at halftime, at least you can sit on your mighty high horse and drink your $4 water.

We as an institution have been sneaking cowbells into football games for 40 years, but suddenly we don't have game enough to sneak in a couple bottles of water? What has happened to us?

Do you think the other stadiums where the stadium stays full....

...people are getting cheaper water ? No. It is a business and these companies look at hot days as a way to make money. Not lose it.

When half the stadium left at halftime, what do you think it did to concession sales?

(I have no way of knowing if cheaper water keeps fans there though)

It is funny you mentioned that. I know for an absolute fact that they are. Unfortunately, I am a displaced bulldog. I am currently living in College Station, TX exactly one mile from Kyle Field. Yesterday, I decided to take a walk and see how the aggie tailgate experience compared to Mississippi State's. I personally didn't think it was anything like tailgates in the junction, but of course I'm biased. The one thing that really caught my attention was the fact that fans are allowed to bring water into the stadium. Guys were carrying a gallon jug of water through security for a night game. The official policy is to let anyone carry up to a liter of water into the stadium, but they are a bit lax on the rules. It's something that I think Mississippi State should incorporate at DWS. I am willing to bet many of the students in the student section would take advantage of this, and possibly spend there money on food at the concessions instead of forking out all of their money on a water or simply leaving. Why not make the gameday experience the best it can be for the fans?

I take an empty 1 liter bottle into every game. Occasionally the ticket takers see it, see that it's empty and tell me to have a good day as they did yesterday. Not once have they stopped me from taking an empty in and I fill it up at the cooler before game and at halftime. ***** if you want to about $4 bottles but it's pretty simple to get by otherwise too

i wont be convincing anybody here, but im not trying to be an *** when i say "why dont you or cant you drink from the public water fountains?"

that is why they are there. if it is as dire as it sounds, just use the free access public water fountains. public fountains serve the general public at no direct cost to the consumer while bottled water is a luxury good of sorts.

our student section would be full of people drinking vodka if they let students bring in liters of clear liquid....that might not be a bad thing considering it could only improve attendance after halftime.

my question is (assuming you are a student) why even show up in the first place? if it is THAT bad, why even show up to the game and sit through it for a grueling hour and a half just to leave when the team needs you the most? thats like a surgery tech showing up for the prep work, then walking out once all the incisions are made during a highly critical surgery.
