The firing. The world is getting so PC that a coach can't even yell at players anymore. Doing what that crazy Rutgers basketball coach did is one thing, he deserved what he got. But a little yelling and cussing never hurt anybody, especially college athletes. It's not like this is a youth team.

I can't think of an unjustified firing lately.

And from the article, there is hardly much evidence either way that allows anyone on the outside to form an opinion.

Not renewing that many scholarships is a dick move. Totally within his power, but a total dick move. It sort of leads me to believe there was something going on, but I won't jump to conclusions.

Yeah, at the very least I didn’t get the sense from reading the article that he was “fired for yelling at players”.

This is the big problem. The scholarship stuff is too one sided. You ask the player to make the commitment, but the school does not have to. Scholarships are 1 year deals and if the players had the ability to move after the season, then it would be okay to not renew scholarships for any reason. However, since players are stuck with the school, the school should have to have some sort of "just cause" to not renew a scholarship.

First thing I thought when I saw that was that I'm glad this fad of firing coaches for yelling at players didn't start about 5 years ago.

I've seen Cohen throw some world class tirades, but it's obvious to see that he's settled down. There were many Polk players that hated playing for him, but I have not heard lately any player just hating the guy. They may hate they don't get to play, but that's not the same thing.
