the bowl system is the ultimate manifestation of the good-old-boy system in college athletics. It has NOTHING to do with putting the best product on the field (except for the BCS whose ONLY job is to pair #1 vs. #2 at the end). For years, the BCS system was essentially held hostage by a parade featuring floats made out of flowers. The ticket sale argument is invalid. The schools get what, 15,000 tickets at a time? What fanbase couldn't sell THAT out? Records mean jack squat once a team is eligible. Nobody cares that the SEC East sucks out loud this year, only that Michigan and Tennessee have more grads that will travel, more idiot bandwagon jumping fans at home, and more hungover louts coast-to-coast will tune in thinking "hey, it's just like Manning vs. Woodson!"
