You have to wonder whether the Malzahn move can be explained ...

like this:

1. Malzahn needs HC experience.
2. He walks into a real nice situation left by Freeze at ASU.
3. He can recruit Arky without a learning curve.
4. Because of 2 and 3, you expect him to do exceptionally well at ASU with gaudy results.
5. He's not on the plains as the dinghy goes down in flames with heads rolling and the toothless fool standing on the bow resolutely saluting.
6. After they force toothless out, there will be a newly minted Malzahn with HC experience ready to return.

My working theory. The drunk *** bastard kind of gave this away not long ago on the Finebaum show. Said, "He's the best coach down there." The clear implication was that GM was the reason for their success.

Callers into Memphis radio this morning from Jonesboro saying these same things, and that Freeze and Malzahn are really good friends, and Freeze was instrumental in getting Malzahn there. If he has 3 good years at ASU, he will be back on top as one of the hottest names.</p>

an SEC program. Not everyone is cut out for the meat grinder and I think Gus is one of them. Hell 1 million a year with reasonable expectations doesn't sound too bad.

Numbers example only ,but can retire in Ark.at 50 and draw $400,000 per year for 30 years=12 million$.Then can coach for more $ or not. Very unique opportunity here.

Freeze, Malzahn, and Morris from Clemson all talk. They all come from similar backgrounds as high school coaches. Malzahn rode Mustain and company to the college game. Freeze rode Oher to the college game. Morris didn't really ride a player to the college game. He did coach Snead and Garett Gilbert in high school though. Morris got his chance primarily because Malzahn recommended him at Tulsa to replace him. Regardless, they're all former high school coaches who have used offensive innovation to rise through the college ranks rather quickly. Morris just got a raise to $1.2M as an OC at Clemson just two years after coming up to the college ranks.

They share the hurry-up spread system with a combination of spread option type and spread passing philosophies. Anyway, they all three communicate and share ideas. Each has their own spin on the offense, but they're fairly similar.

when did Arkansas State become a plush job? I have to assume that Malzahn was on the Southern Miss list, does this mean Arky State is already a better job than USM?

Everything you said with the exception of 6.

He isn't going back to Auburn. Like I said, he aspires to be the UPig coach. That will be his next move.
< />
He is already a legend in Arkansas. He will be a god in their view if he wins at stAte.
