Manny Deshauteurs from Brevard was just a fun ball player to watch all over the field. Very shifty at RB.
Johnny White at Asheville was a good one. He and Butler were great enough athletes that they made a very simple offense explosive.

Nick Maddox of AL Brown was special. Seen Tony Baker of Ragsdale who was really good RB. Also Corey Alexander of Mooresville was real good. These I seen in person as well.

I saw Baker as a freshman and knew he would be special.
This goes way back to about 1966-67 I think but Statesville's undefeated team had Eddie Gamble at Full Back and Lynn Davenport at Tailback. That was a tandem. Just for the record, I did not attend Statesville HS except on a few fall Friday nights along with most of Iredell County.
One honorable mention is Natrone Means of Central Cabarrus. And Antione Ikard of Maiden was a beast. Fun RB to watch.
A lot of big time names on this list that went to big schools and some made it to the NFL. An under the radar name was Kujuan Pryor for Burns. He had one of the best individual performances I have seen in the playoffs at Hibriten several years back. Everyone will tell me if I'm wrong, but I think he holds the Cleveland County record for rushing yards as well. The kid could absolutely fly, and at only 5'6", he hid behind the lineman so well.
I have never felt dumber than when trying to tackle Manny Deshauters on a punt return. One attempt was a complete whiff and the other one I pretty much speared him out of bounds after he was gang tackled by about four other players just to make sure he didn't somehow break loose and keep running.

Quan Warley at Thomasville. Reminded me of Emmitt Smith with the way he read blocking and wasn't the biggest or fastest, but insanely hard to tackle. Ran for over 8000 yards in three seasons as a starter and lead Tville to three consecutive state titles from 2004-06.

Some will say he was a product of the system but his toughness and running style could have equated to any offensive scheme. He was a bruiser in a DB frame.

Walter "Flip" Ellerbe from Richmond County in the late 80s? I always loved that name... But I'd say Princeton's Mike Atkinson, who ran over everyone from 77-80 and set state rushing/TD records that lasted decades, Nick Maddox from Brown, Albemarle's T.A. McClendon, and K.P. Parks from West Rowan are some of the greatest high school backs ever.
Johnny White - he was extremely tough to bring down and he played his best in the big games. He and Butler in the Asheville backfield from 03-05 was special to watch. The injury bug shortened his time in the NFL.
