Gents -

Howdy all. I came by this board about this time last year before the UH game at your place, and remain thankful for all the good advice on what to do in Starkville and Jackson. Of course, getting the W was a nice bonus.

At any rate, what a difference a game makes. When the year started, we had visions of a BCS run and a Heisman candidacy. After the UCLA game, now we're reduced to starting a true freshman QB, backed up by another true freshman QB, and hoping that we squeeze enough additional wins out of our craptastic conference schedule to go to the New Orleans Bowl and get smoked by Troy or somebody.

As if losing Keenum wasn't bad enough, as if losing our RB Sims that gave y'all fits last year wasn't bad enough, now our stud big WR James Cleveland is suspended for this game. It just gets better and better. We think the Broadway kid is going to be special, but asking any true freshman to run the best offense in the country (statistically speaking, anyway) is asking a whole lot.

All that said, we haven't lost a home game since 2007, and we'll have a sellout crowd for the game.

From watching a couple of your games, it looks like y'all still mightily struggle on offense, so those of you betting the game might want to focus on the O/U (56 last time I checked).

At any rate, I'll be checking in from time to time between now and Saturday, so feel free to hit me up with any questions about UH that y'all have.

And if you want to check out the UH board that is most like this one (as opposed to our respective Scout boards), drop by www.coogfun.com.

Good luck this weekend.

"struggling" offensively vs Auburn, LSU and UGA doesn't lead to struggling versus that vaunted Houston Cougar defense. In all fairness, I think the only thing we struggled with offensively with you guys last year was hanging on to the dang ball. If we don't turn it over Saturday, your little Conference USA-ish home win streak will be done. It's cool and all to have that win streak, and I respect your sellout of probably what...30,000 estimated, but honestly it's not like it's been a powerful home schedule. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Texas Tech last year the only BCS school that has lost in Houston and the rest were CUSA and lower? Again, a streak is a streak, but that ain't gonna play a part Saturday...sellout or not.</p>

a game, and playing 3 tough SEC defences, really struggling on offense. And I don't think losing by 3 points to #10 and losing to #12 LSU on the road struggling either. Maybe only giving up 16.2 points a game on defense is considered struggling, but what do I know. I'm guessing that byHoustonputting up an average of 70 yards a game, more thanMSU,against some stellar defenses makes them the favorite in this one. I believe the real struggle for us early in the season, was trying to get too damn many RB's the ball and not sticking with Ralph, Perkins, and Ballard. That triple headed monster is pretty difficult to stop, and Mullen just figured that out during UGA game.

The only thing I recall MSU struggling with last season was the CUSA officiating crew: Not reviewing blatantly obvious missed calls and throwing phantom holding handkerchiefs after Dixon had scored. That's the only thing I recall, that and Keenum throwing 3 passes beyond 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. SEC officials will be presiding even though they hate MSU anyway, they are gonna call it fair.

8 vs 2? And I remember Dan going up to an official after a holding penalty was not called and grabbed the official by his shirt and pulled it to demonstrate what holding was.

The biggest thing was the throwing beyond the LOS call which was wrong and should have been replayed. That was bogus. Part of that was on Dan and the staff for not requesting a replay. I believe we scored a TD on that play that was nixed.

Also, the Torbush Two got royally torched in that game. This is one game that I'm hoping that Manny will help out a lot in.

But someone please tell me that we are having SEC officials in this game. (Can't believe I just typed that)

i don't think we scored, but we were down to about the 2.....and it was 4th down and the loss of down was essentially a turnover....oh, and with 330 yds rushing that game i would imagine we would have no trouble punching that one in

You think You are going to win this game don't you. I'll try and let you down easy. We are going to beat you. Don't take it personally. We just need the win.

I do agree that its apparent he does not realize who our two losses were against.

but I have seen some of these games where an SEC team will have a SEC crew vs a I-AA school. So, I think it's negotiable in the contract that the schools sign, but you are correct, it normally is a crew from the other team's conference.

However, since LT probably did the contract for this game, I wouldn't be surprised if he whored us out.

The usual is that in a home-and-home between I-A schools, the visiting team supplies the refs and in a buy game the home team supplies the refs. But it's completely up to what the 2 ADs agree on.

Either in hotel or parking garage. I used to live in Houston, midtown and a cab ride is cheap and negotiable. Don't settle on first price. Always shoot for a lower price and they'll usually go for it. If not hop in one of the other 15 cabs sitting behind him. Avoid open, non gated parking lots unless police will be guarding entire game.
