Zags should have stuck to West Coast opponents

Playing in the West Coast Conference gave Gonzaga a cakewalk season which probably was a reason that Baylor, playing in the toughest conference in America, embarrassed the Zags so badly in the March Madness title game.

4 of the 10 teams, including Gonzaga, had a worst non-conference record than conference record.

West Coast teams lost THIRTY SIX non-conference games!

West Coast conference is not in the Power 5 or the Little 5 so that makes it, at best, the 11th best conference in America.

Every member is a private, faith-based institution. Except for Gonzaga, no Notre Dame among the other 9 teams.

Let’s be fair. Gonzaga did beat Kansas, 102-90; Auburn, 90-67; West Virginia, 87-82; Iowa, 99-88; Virginia, 98-75; Oklahoma, 87-71; Southern Cal, 85-66; and UCLA in the March Madness thriller of the century in overtime, 93-90.

And got whipped by Baylor in the March Madness title game that the Bears started 11-1 and never let the Zags get closer than 9 and was up by as much as 19 before Baylor let its entire bench have the thrill of playing in the title game. Much tougher competition than the West Coast for the Zags, but not for the Bears.

Gonzaga got a free pass every time it played in the West Coast Conference.

West Coast has had 32 NBA players, some for only one season, most notably Bill Russell of San Francisco and John Stockton of Gonzaga, both NBA Hall of Famers.

Teams in the West Coast Conference:

Gonzaga

BYU

Loyola Marymount

Pepperdine

Pacific

Santa Clara

Saint Mary’s

San Francisco

Lost 83-52 to Baylor in only game played by Big 12 team against a West Coast team. By 31 points. No wonder Gonzaga went unbeaten in the West Coast.

San Diego

Portland

I believe that if Baylor and Gonzaga played 10 times. They would split the games. Baylor was on fire last night and Gonzaga had a bad night.

THERE'S YOUR PROBLEM. YOU BELIEVE. THE NUMBERS CALL YOU DELUSIONAL. AND TOLD YOU IN ADVANCE YOU WERE WRONG. HELL, IOWA STATE, WHICH LOST ALL 18 GAMES IN THE BIG 12, LOST BY FEWER POINTS BY FAR THAN GONZAGA. IT WAS OBVIOUSLY FROM THE GET-GO THAT THE ZAGS WERE OVER-MATCHED. BAYLOR MADE GONZAGA HAVE "A BAD NIGHT." NO WAY THE 2 TEAMS WOULD SPLIT IF THEY PLAYED 10 GAMES. MORE LIKE 8-2. NUMBERS DON'T LIE. ZAG FANS AND BIG 10 FANS DO.

Cfe..good grief you are terminally stupid! So by your middle school reasoning...if wvu scheduled 30 games against the Eastern Kentucky s of the world and won all games by 20 or more then the Mountaineers would be the best in the Free World! Numbers dont lie you say!

Gonzaga would have to change the style they played all year. No chance they won split with Baylor without slowing the game down

Sorry CFE...
There isn't reason to show them that much love.

They are still a cult like university who supported a football coach who covered up rapes.
Not to mention their previous coach prior to Scott Drew tried to cover up a murder.

Not our kind of people.

Not me. Baylor’s D was outstanding and that is a constant. TheZags got nothing easy. And Baylor made shots and did not do stupid TOs. So the Zags could not run out much. Baylor kicked their asses and imo would do it again and again.

I believe Baylor would win 9 of 10. Gonzaga can't handle in your face defense.

Many here don't remember this is the same Baylor teams that won 23 straight games before Covid put a stop to things. Every player from that team returned. Players staying make a big difference when it comes to winning it all. Baylor most experienced team.

Of course if it was December maybe they split.
