What exactly does he bring to the table? He’s great at dribbling the air out of the ball 35 feet from the basket, then handing the ball to a non-guard who comes to rescue him, then disappears for the rest of the possession. How did this dude get his nickname? He doesn’t even attempt to break down the defense.

I’m encouraged by what I saw tonight out of the 5 guys who are clearly our 5 best players. But after that group, it’s a big drop off, and Zoom ain’t in that group. I hope he shows something soon because we’re paying him too much to be shown up by Mason Williams every game.

I'll take a stab here....

He clearly needs to play smarter. His turnovers in these first 2 exhibition games were the results largely of him making some really bad decisions on when and who to throw the ball to. He made some horrible decisions in that regard. Lazy / errant / high risk cross court passing will burn us every time he tries it.

There like, no cohesiveness or offensive purpose as to where he's going or to whom the play can go to. I'm not sure if that's properly stated or if i can convey my feelings in that regard.

There were times it was like, several players were in good position to recieve a pass, but they simply didnt get it, nor were they even looked for. Mom's numbers reflect that tonight.

Zoom's dribbling the ball too long, it's getting hung up on him because he isnt letting the flow iof the game come to him, he's pressing too hard and the offense is suffering for his lack of awareness.

I'm not an X's & O's guy, I'm sure others can break it down much better than I. I just get the feeling he's pressing a little too much to create the flow offensively, rather than playing smarter with the ball, truly VALUING EVERY POSSESSION and acting / making plays accordingly.

Sometimes it's NOT being in the play (even when you're out there on the floor) that is the smart play in a particular possession. Every possession does not necessarily NEED him to be the focal and/or central position to garner the attention.

I'm also not seeing him move much at all when he's off the ball. Just standing there. But I can critique the other players for doing the same.

Defensively, Zoom and Wilkins both need to be in better defensive position to stop straight line drives, period. The smaller quicker guards will eat us alive if they dont move better, faster, smarter, laterally. It's more of a matter of positioning because giving that many straight line drives in inexcuseable.

Williams really played much better in all phases of a guard position than Zoom tonight. WITHOUT wILLIAMS, WE LOSE TONIGHTS GAME.

And Williams is the true freshman here ...... not Zoom.

Yes, I still believe we will only really go as far as Zoom and Wilkins can carry us as a team. but Williams gives me MUCH more confidence moving forward.

I dunno, maybe the coaches can correct the errors. Mo Williams should really work with him, because if someone doesn't, then his son will be starting and Zoom will not. If he wants the paradigm to change, he has to clean things up asap. Because we "cleaned up the turnover" issue - when Zoom was OFF the court and not on it.

I really hope he gets it together, we need him to be the best he can possibly be. And even if that isnt enough talent wise, then he needs to at least not be a -7 detriment when he is in the game.

Feel bad for the kid. He’s going to have a pretty lousy experience making a few million this year.

(I do expect him to play much better. I don’t expect BBN to ever want him to be their PG nor did I expect it before the exhibitions)
Definitely feel bad for him. He just doesn't have IT, or hasn't so far. You're right, he's going to have a bad experience. You're also right, he's likely still making millions so that should ease the pain. A smart person could parlay that for one year into a lifetime of living well.

It sucks when one of our own can't perform as expected and becomes a target of fan grief. This kid, at first blush, doesn't look like he has the talent or the attitude to be in the position that he's in. Here's to hoping he turns things around. It's still (extremely) early.

Rough start for Zoom so far. He can give us some minutes off the bench. I gotta think he's better than what we've seen so far. Hopefully Pope started him for more than just NIL reason. He can clean up the turnovers and attack the basket better. Williams does seem ready for the role though at this point.

Poor man's Allen Edwards.
Not a PG.
The only reason he wasn't moved off the ball earlier in his career is that he was on a terrible team.
If you're playing for March, you're playing Mason Williams.

He’s a big physical guard at 6 6. Good defensive player. Just not seeing the whole floor well right now. Has to learn to dictate play at his own pace. Ball handling needs to improve. I do think he has the mid range pull up.

Did you watch him at Washington? He wasn’t good. There’s a reason they didn’t make the tournament last year.
With one of the best players in the country at center. Never got this recruitment, just an athlete playing basketball. Pope keeps saying they went heavy on creators in the portal when they really only got one (Wilkins) of substance.

Two scrimmages in we are stereotyping and railing on this kid .get a life give it time ⏲️
It's the usual suspects. They always pick one player to bash relentlessly. If you look at the Tom Leach highlights, he shows up a lot either when he scored or making assist or defense.. He had some horrendous turnovers and there's no excuse for that but I think people focus on that and ignored everything else. If Pope can learn to incorporate his outstanding mid range game that adds another dimension to this team.

He’s terrible. Yeah he may get better and we better hope so. I didn’t see it before he committed and I don’t see it now. He’s about as average as a pg comes in college to me. He needs to be leading a .500 Washington team or Oregon State or something. Maybe his defense will be worth it in the end, but he must be way better than he is now or we will be a .500 team if Mason Williams doesn’t play a ton.

When you have Milan Momcilovic and he shoots 4 3’s all game that is an indication that your coaching staff and guards aren’t very good right now.

I had no problem with Zoom, he had some turn overs but clean that up and he did fine.
He is big, rebounds well and is scrappy. He just brings something different.
Hopefully he doesn't come to this board though, dude would be in his head.

Bottom line, Williams and Wilkins will need to play 30+ minutes a night. Once Morton gets back, Zoom should be a spot player unless he makes some serious changes in his play style.
I personally think Kam may even get time at two guard. The minutes will be scarce backing up MM, and N'Diaye looks pretty good at the four

Milan is just coasting right now. He passed up several shots he normally would take. He will let those fly in season. He’s a senior he knows these games mean close to nothing so work on driving it a little more and stuff. He also will get post ups like he did when him and Moreno inverted and Moreno post fed him.

And you still win by double digits. He still ended up with 15 or 16 points. They obviously focused and trying to shut him down. Other players had to step up which Williams and Wilkins did. I believe we have four or five players with double digit scoring, and we had a ton of assist as well. I mean there's a lot to work on including getting Zoom to fit in, but there was a lot of positive for this game.

Mid-range isn’t how basketball is played anymore. We’ve been through this with Cal. It’s a high risk/low reward shot. Zoom had the lowest +/- on the team. This is a guy who was recruited (and paid) to be your starting point guard, not some “versatile bench piece”. He was billed as someone who could create for others, because last years team lacked that. So far I haven’t seen it.

I'm failing to see what he does well. If he can't bully his man into the paint and hit a middy I'm not sure what else he has to offer at least offensively.

hopefully diallo accepts a backup role and commits to being a defensive stopper and just limits his turnovers coming off the bench. he and wilkins are not starting SEC level guards. the sooner pope realizes this, the better chance this team will have.

I'm with those who ask what he does well. I actually okay letting him start and play 12 minutes (if he can defend well and not turn the ball over) but Williams needs to get the bigger minutes as he did last night. But it could be that zoom will turn sour and not even listen to coaching from Williams dad. Eyes on this one.

I agree that Zoom does not seem to be certain how he fits in with this team at this point, but to say that Wilkins isn't an SEC level guard is simply wrong
