Alabama WR Bubba Hampton intends to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. This comes on Tuesday morning per reporting by On3’s Pete Nakos.

Per Nakos, this is a mutually agreed-upon decision by the redshirt freshman receiver and the Crimson Tide. He will finish out the semester, as he’s still enrolled in his classes in Tuscaloosa, before entering the portal come January. He will then have three years of eligibility left wherever he decides to transfer to.

Hampton had not been with ‘Bama so far this season. He left the team during fall camp, which Kalen Deboer had confirmed about a month ago during the SEC Coaches Teleconference.

“Bubba has not been with us for quite a while,” DeBoer said back on September 10th. “Going into early fall camp.”

As a true freshman last season, Hampton appeared in three games against Western Kentucky, at Wisconsin on special teams, and versus Mercer. He has recorded one catch in his collegiate career, which went for six yards in a 52-7 blowout of the Bears in their final non-conference game on November 17th.

Hampton, a native of Daingerfield, Texas, is a former recruit at No. 251 overall as a four-star in the 2024 recruiting cycle. He also rated as the No. 10 ATH in the class and a Top-50 player out of the state of Texas. That’s according to the Rivals’ Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Hampton twice committed to Texas before flipping late to Alabama, as he’d arrive and stay signed on after the coaching change from Nick Saban to DeBoer. He’d come in as part of the No. 2 class in the country for the Crimson Tide per Rivals’ 2024 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings as one of 28 commitments.

Hampton saw his time end at Alabama about two months ago now. However, now that the reporting is there that they’ve agreed he’ll be entering the portal after the calendar turns, he’ll get a chance to play elsewhere in the country once his name officially goes in.
