Alabama sophomore quarterback Bryce Young had high praise for his fans and teammates after being named MVP of the SEC Championship game. Young was named MVP of the SEC title game, setting a new passing record with 421 yards and four total touchdowns.

Bryce Young on winning SEC Championship game MVP

“It’s a tremendous blessing,” Young said to CBS Sports’ Jamie Erdahl after the game. “All glory to God and thanks to him for making this possible. To have the support, we have for the fans we’re truly grateful for you guys. We love you. For me to have the teammates I do, the coaches I do, I’m just blessed. It’s a surreal moment for me.”

Young finished the day as a record holder, setting a new SEC Championship game passing yards record with 421. Young threw for three touchdowns against the best defense in the nation and ran for one more.

His performance topped the record set by Mac Jones in the 2020 SEC Championship against Florida. Not only did he break several records tonight against Georgia, but he also likely locked up the Heisman Trophy. Young was a favorite of many to win the prestigious award, and his monster performance on Saturday was an excellent cap on his season.

With the win, Young and Alabama have certainly secured their College Football Playoff berth. When the final rankings are revealed, Alabama will find out if a potential rematch game against Georgia is in their future.

Will Anderson claims Bryce Young deserves Heisman trophy

Young made quite the argument that he should win this year’s Heisman Trophy after his performance on Saturday. His teammate Will Anderson sure seems to think he’s earned it.

“In my opinion, it is — Mr. Heisman himself,” Anderson told CBS reporter Jamie Erdahl after the game. “Did you see what he did tonight? Did you see what he did tonight? That’s a Heisman.”

“All day, baby. All day,” added Phidarian Mathis, Alabama defensive lineman.

Young finished Saturday’s game 26-for-44 with 421 yards and four total touchdowns. Three of the scores came through the air, while one came on the ground. His touchdown passes went for 67, 55 and 13 yards.

The sophomore quarterbacks’ numbers on the season rival the last three quarterbacks to win the Heisman — LSU’s Joe Burrow in 2019 and both Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield from Oklahoma in 2018 and 2017, respectively.

Anderson is receiving some Heisman hype himself this season, as he entered Saturday’s game with 86 tackles and 14.5 sacks on the year. The linebacker added six additional stops, two tackles for loss and a sack against Georgia.
