No. 8 Alabama will already be down RB Jam Miller in their opener this weekend at Florida State. However, in his first answer at his press conference this morning going into the first game week of the fall, Kalen DeBoer noted at least one other player who could be out for the Crimson Tide on Saturday.

Speaking to the media on Monday, DeBoer noted IOL Jaeden Roberts as the other player that the Tide are uncertain will play come the weekend in Tallahassee. That’s with Roberts still working through the concussion protocol that he’s been in during the course of fall practice this month.

“I would say Jaeden Roberts, you know, is still in question, just with what he’s going through and protocol and the process there,” said DeBoer.

“He’s progressing, he’s progressing so we’ll kind of see here,” DeBoer said.

Roberts has been sidelines for nearly the duration of fall camp with this concussion. He missed both preseason scrimmages for ‘Bama, with DeBoer recently noting that he “hasn’t taken any team reps” since.

Roberts is entering his fifth and final season at Alabama, having appeared in 26 games with 20 starts on their offensive line at guard. He’s now back as part of a quality offensive line, with Roberts receiving preseason honors as part of that unit as Second Team All-SEC as voted on by the media and in the publication for Phil Steele, as part of the watchlist for the Outland Trophy, and as a Second Team All-American by those at Sporting News.

Having been out for two weeks now, Roberts is now at risk of missing Alabama’s opener as he’s still in the midst of concussion protocol. His status, though, is still pending how he trends this week ahead of Saturday’s game in Tallahassee.

Jam Miller injury update: Kalen DeBoer expects Alabama RB to return by SEC opener vs. Georgia

When Jam Miller injured his collarbone, fans in Tuscaloosa were wondering if they’d see the ball-carrier on the field any time soon. Well, on Friday, Kalen DeBoer delivered some solid news regarding their starting back’s status.

“Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said he expects starting running back Jam Miller to return in time for the SEC opener against Georgia on Sept. 27,” ESPN’s Chris Low wrote. “Miller dislocated his collarbone in the Tide’s scrimmage last Saturday and will miss the opener against Florida State on Aug. 30.”

“He’s doubtful to play in the next two games against ULM and Wisconsin. Alabama has a bye the week before its visit to Georgia.”

That’s a solid update for the Crimson Tide on Miller. Still, losing a player like him in the backfield for any significant length is a blow for Alabama to deal with to start the season off.
