The latest edition of Alabama vs. Georgia will take place this weekend in Athens. That game will also feature the season debut of RB Jam Miller, with the Tides’ running back returning right on time between the hedges.

Kalen DeBoer revealed Miller’s positive status during his press conference on Monday. He said they ramped Miller up last week during the bye with him expected to make his return from a collarbone injury in the preseason against the Bulldogs on Saturday.

“I do. I do expect him to go,” said DeBoer. “He practiced yesterday. Been building up last week, his volume. And so, expect him to play.”

Miller injured that collarbone, having to have a surgery on it afterward, during the final preseason scrimmage for ‘Bama back on August 17th. He was deemed out at that point for the first few weeks of this season with the Crimson Tide circling this game, their conference opener coming out of their first bye, as the return date they were hoping for after being out for the duration of their non-conference against Florida State, UL Monroe, and Wisconsin.

Miller, the senior back, has 219 carries over his first three seasons for 1,092 yards and 10 touchdowns. That includes a career-best campaign last year as a junior, being their lead running back with 145 carries for 668 yards and seven scores.

In his absence, Alabama has used a committee of running backs to this point through the first month of the season. Kevin Riley (23 carries for 120 yards) has emerged the most but Richard Young (19 carries for 148 yards, TD), Dre Washington (9 carries for 36 yards), and AK Dear (7 carries for 85 yards, TD) have also seen touches for the Tide.

This timeline went according to plan for Alabama. It’s now a matter of how limited he may be and what his impact will look like for his debut in what’s a Top-20 conference matchup against UGA.
