Joe Namath calls out Alabama on social media after Florida State loss

Saturday was not a good one for Alabama. Everyone involved with the program is frustrated with the result against Florida State. Former players, even the old school ones, are no different. Just look at former quarterback Joe Namath as an example.

Namath took to social media after the loss, saying a long season is ahead. Alabama did not look too inspiring, on either end of the ball. Consider Namath unimpressed.

Only one other tweet came from Namath about the game. Right after the opening drive touchdown, led by quarterback Ty Simpson, Namath came with compliments. Not just for Simpson but also the Alabama offensive line.

It’s something he might have thought would play out through four quarters. Instead, it wound up being the only impressive drive of the afternoon.

“Alabama’s offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage and Simpson kept his poise,” Namath said via X. “A near perfect execution for our opening drive! Roll Tide!!!”

The season for Alabama will continue with a home game against Louisiana-Monroe. Wisconsin will make its way to Tuscaloosa the following week for another nonconference matchup against a power conference foe. Plenty of pressure is going to be on Kalen DeBoer to stack up wins moving forward.

Namath will be watching his Crimson Tide the rest of the way but believes some big-time struggles might come along the way. Tougher tests will pop up once SEC play gets underway, especially in the opener against the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens.

For the second time in Week 1, a top-10 ranked team has fallen. This one is a bit more surprising, though, as Florida State upset No. 8 Alabama on Saturday, 31-17. Once the Seminoles knew they needed all offseason, head coach Mike Norvell delivered in the biggest way.

You can add quarterback Tommy Castellanos to the list of people who delivered. Castellanos produced headline after headline talking about Alabama after transferring in from Boston College. His words turned into a great performance, both through the air and on the ground.

In 14 pass attempts, Castellanos completed nine for 152 yards. But it’s the run game that led Florida State to victory. Their quarterback led the way with 68 yards and one touchdowns. Four different Seminoles got into the end zone for a rushing score, totaling 230 yards. As usual against Alabama, a Gus Malzahn special.
