When Alabama dropped Saturday’s game to Oklahoma, everyone in Tuscaloosa knew a drop in the College Football Playoff rankings was coming. The Crimson Tide fell all the way to No. 10 after previously being No. 4. Not the highest two-loss ranked team either, sitting behind OU and Notre Dame.

Reaction poured in to the news, including from FOX’s Mark Ingram. He believes Alabama deserved going as low as they did. Ingram cited the turnovers and the head-to-head aspect with Oklahoma. So, not too much shock on his end.

“I mean, they deserve that,” Ingram said via The Triple Option. “You go in and have three turnovers. Botched snap, hold, and kick — when you lose a game like that and it’s very self-inflicted against a very good Oklahoma defense, who’s forced the turnovers, obviously, you’re going to slide and be behind the team you lost to. So, two losses, it’s fair for them to be in there. They’re lucky they’re not lower.”

Right below Alabama is a pair of Big 12 rivals, BYU and Utah. The former only has one loss on the resume, while the Ute also holds two losses. Nobody from the College Football Playoff committee exactly explained why Kalen DeBoer‘s bunch is ahead of them, with more of the conversation revolving around Notre Dame.

Even so, Ingram sees a path to where Alabama can be included in the 12-team field. Controlling their own destiny is a popular term and Ingram used it as such to describe what is ahead.

“They still control their own destiny, as far as the Playoff goes,” Ingram said. “You drop to the 12, 11 spot, now you’re in trouble… That 10 spot, ultimately, lets them control their own destiny, still, with this ranking they gave them. They deserve it but they still got everything to play for ahead of them.”

Two games remain on the schedule for Alabama. One takes place at home this week, hosting Eastern Illinois for Senior Day. You will be hard-pressed to find any predictions other than the Crimson Tide emerging as big-time winners.

And then there is the Iron Bowl, one everyone knows danger can pop out of nowhere. If Alabama wins there, a spot in Atlanta for the SEC Championship is more than likely due to tiebreakers across the conference. Getting past Auburn is not going to be an easy task, though, needing to fight through a rivalry game.
