Alabama makes in-home visit to 5-star edge Marvin Jones Jr.
Alabama outside linebackers coach Sal Sunseri made an in-home visit this week to the nation’s top prospect in the 2022 On300.
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage 2022 five-star edge Marvin Jones Jr. met with Alabama’s Sunseri just two weeks before the Early Signing Period. This is the first time in nearly two years that coaches are allowed to make in-home visits during the Contact Period.
Marvin Jones Jr. is a five-star prospect according to the 2022 On3 Consensus Rankings, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Jones took his official visit to Tuscaloosa at the start of November — one of three that the 2022 edge has taken along with Florida State and Oklahoma. Jones still plans to visit Georgia next week, but will not be taking any official visits this weekend per On3 National Analyst Gerry Hamilton.

Alabama remains locked in a battle for Jones’ commitment with Georgia and Florida State, while the effect of Lincoln Riley’s departure from Oklahoma may have strained the chances of Jones landing in Norman.
Marvin Jones Jr. Scouting Summary
On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote the following on Jones as a prospect:
A fluid, coordinated pass rusher. Turns tight corners at high speeds and shows the flexibility to dip and bend around the edge. Uses his quick hands to swat and disengage from offensive tackles in pass rush situations. Capable of affecting passing lanes with his instincts and athleticism. Has shown the ability to be a strong pursuit defender when engaged. Comes from a high school program that broke the record for most former players taken in one NFL Draft. Had a stronger junior season than his senior season to date. Can continue to ramp up the physicality on a snap to snap basis. Younger for the class with a summer birthday and went from 215 to 245 pounds between his junior and senior year.
Tide looking to add to No. 2 class
Alabama holds a slight edge over Texas A&M for the No. 2 recruiting class nationally according to the 2022 On3 Consensus Team Rankings. Three On3 Consensus five-star prospects are committed to the Crimson Tide, including Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson edge Jeremiah Alexander. The Tide currently sit behind only the Georgia Bulldogs.
