Former Arizona State All-American heavyweight Cohlton Schultz joined the ASU Spirit Squad, according to an announcement from the team. He has officially changed sports now that his wrestling eligibility is done.

HIs position is described as “Coed Base.” Naturally, as a heavyweight, Schultz will be a solid pillar for the flyers on the squad. Cheerleading was certainly an interesting decision for the next part of his athletic career, considering his wrestling accomplishments.

But, Schultz will be around campus for another year out in Tempe. He’s excited to be “bringing the energy” on the field every game.

“We’re so excited to have you on the team, Cohlton!” the post read. “Welcome to the Sun Devil Family!”

Schultz went 97-17 in his five seasons with the Sun Devils. He was a five-time All-American and made it to the NCAA finals in 2022. He lost to Gable Steveson 6-2 and it was his lone loss of that campaign.

Schultz finished in third place in 2025, finishing his final season at 25-6. At the NCAA Championships, he only lost to Steveson via tech fall (20-5). He won multiple matches on the backside and avenged an earlier season loss to NC State’s Isaac Trumble in the third place bout. He beat him 5-3.

Away from the collegiate mat, Schultz competed in Greco-Roman wrestling at the senior level. He competes at 130 KG and recently won a silver medal at the Pan American Championships this year. Schultz won bronze in 2024.

In 2023, Schultz won silver at the Pan American Games and was also a two-time medalist at the World Juniors Championships. He won silver in 2019 and bronze in 2018.

Schultz was a gold medalist at the 2017 World Cadets Championships at 100 KG, before getting to college. Overall, he’ll leave Arizona State as one of its most accomplished wrestlers, being a five-time All-American, an NCAA finalist and four-time Pac-12 champion.

Arizona State struggled last season as a dual team, going 4-11 after the team was hampered by graduation and transfers in recent years. Schultz was one of three Sun Devils to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Championships, alongside 125 pounder Richie Figueroa (who will wrestle for Oklahoma State this season) and 165 pounder Nicco Ruiz.
